Jason appeared to be very professional upon arrival and asked what my concerns were about the roof installation.  I told him I was concerned about high nailing, over nailing, shingle stagger, a row of disappearing shingles on the rear roof, some of the valley weaves and valleys treatments (flashing) on the house, shingles cocked up in the air in 2 places,  and the rear of the house where the wood of the eave was exposed to weather due to the drip edge being placed up on the roof deck instead of the edge of the eave.  I also pointed out an exposed nail that could be seen from the ground and the location where nails were directly below the butt joints in shingle rows.
He seemed to listen and after inspection told us that the roof was consistently high nailed,  over nailed, and flashing was not done correctly in places.  His estimate of roof life was only 5-8 years.
However when his report was sent to us, only the high nailing appeared along with one valley needing work and the roof life expected.  The rear eave was judged by him to be correct.  Left out was the disappearing row of shingles, over nailing, the cocked up shingles, and the caulking used in places of correct flashing (one which he mentioned in his verbal report).  Also missing was exposed nails that I had pointed out and nails in butt joints.
I guess it does matter who paid for the inspection when it comes to writing the final report.

Jason at AVA Roof Consulting was selected as the 3rd party inspector by our insurance company to confirm if we had hail damage this summer. He was extremely thorough and detail specific as to the damage he saw (even unrelated to the hail damage). He let us know a few things at needed to be replaced/touched up to avoid any future leaks. Would definitely recommend Jason if you are looking for an honest/thorough roof inspection.

My husband and I hired a roofing company to install a new roof/shingles and we wanted to ensure they did a good job so we hired AVA Consulting to inspect their work. Jason Sherrill from AVA Consulting came to meet with the roofing crew BEFORE they started their work to let them know he was hired to inspect their work during the installation process and after they completed the work. I was very impressed with AVA Consultants, Jason made four surprise visits to speak with the roofers and to inspect their work throughout the two day process. The roofers seemed a little nervous knowing their work was going to be inspected, but I am sure it put added pressure to ensure they had great workmanship. Thankfully, Jason said the roofing crew were doing a remarkable job and he wouldn't hesitate to use them to do his roof, which made me feel great. The $200 fee to hire AVA Consultants was money well spent.
