On Call Home Inspections

Tom Langford did a great job, easy to talk to and a well documented report w photos included. Transmitted digitally too. He also pulled and dropped off a water sample for testing at a laboratory. Radon testing as well.

Based the findings, I probably won't buy this home. But I do plan to buy, and will use OCHI when I do.

Tom is a joy to work with! He is prompt, professional, and he quickly gave us detailed reports complete with pictures and arrows. He even provided a discount since we were having 2 homes inspected. We would definitely use On Call Home Inspections again!

T0m is the best home inspector we have ever worked with! We have used "On Call" to inspect two homes. We were constrained by time and got his name from our realtor. I was initially concerned about a possible conflict of interest. If his work came on referral from realtors would he be willing to possibly offend a realtor by giving an unbiased report that might hurt or stop a sale (in the case of a house with serious issues)? The first house he examined for us put my fears to rest. We loved this house, but Tom found a number of issues, including major water/moisture damage that would have cost far more to fix than we could afford to spend. We had to call off this purchase. There is no doubt in my mind that Tom saved us from a mistake that would have meant financial disaster for us (we are retired on a fixed income). Also, by following Tom through the house as he made his inspection I learned more about how a house is put together (the good, the bad and the ugly) than I learned in owning 3 homes previously. Useful knowledge not only for buying a home, but for taking proper care of it so that it can serve us well, and eventually be in great shape for the next owners, should we or our children want to sell the home in the future. We have moved on to another house and Tom has helped us to look beneath the surface and see the house in perspective. There are issues (all houses will have issues I think) but we have a clear understanding of what they are in this case, and are speaking with a contractor about what it will take to correct them. We will discuss what we learn with the sellers, and hopefully have the issues addressed and move forward with the purchase of our new home. With luck this will be the last time we will need Tom's services, but if we have to look further to find a home, there is no way we will buy a house without his evaluation.

Tom Langford was prompt in returning my initial call and all follow-up calls and emails. He answered all of my questions and helped me decide which of his inspection services were appropriate in my situation. I received the report later the same day as the inspection. The report was thorough and he took the time to answer all questions about his report. I would definitely use Tom's services again.

Excellent experience. Tom was very available to talk on phone, via text, email, etc. Was able to get an inspection scheduled fast. Did a very detailed job, and spent a lot of time at the home finding the important issues. Also provided the detailed inspection report later that same day--after wrapping up at the house around 7pm! Was very easy to work with, and when I needed some special forms, he got those to me quickly. Will definitely utilize Tom again in the future if we need another home inspection. No reservations.

Tom was an absolute pleasure to work with. He was punctual and efficient, yet thoroughly inspected the house and covered everything with us. He paid close attention to details and ensured that he pointed out everything - even those items that are not an issue - just so we would know. Tom arrived early and promptly got to work.  I was impressed from the start at how knowledgeable he is --  both with the nature of this kind of house and North Carolina law.   I'm not experienced with this sort of home and he put me at ease, answering all questions  thoroughly and patiently.  He was up on the roof,  in every nook and cranny inside and crawled all over underneath, explainng the newer type of "tie-down" this home has. (Something I would never know!)
Tom is the BEST and I've dealt with quite a few home inspections over the years, all over the country.  ( I moved a lot!)  I asked for  business cards to give to several Real Estate agents I know.   He sent me a very comprehensive Report, complete with photos and explanations.  He also followed up with emails and calls, when I couldn't, at first, open the email file.  I would also like to add that he is a great person and I  felt very comfortable having him around.

Tom was very polite and helpful up front, letting us know what to expect and inviting me to be there during the inspection (did not expect that). We were there so I benefited from the process of having him point things out, even things above and beyond the inspection. That will make moving in much easier, some aspects of the house better understood (mechanical systems, plumbing, etc.). He was very thorough while inspecting the house. He got the report to me and our realtor by the end of the same day and talked through it with me. All in all, I was glad he was the guy we hired for the job.

We hired Tom Langford of On Call Home Inspections to make sure the house we were purchasing was sound and to learn as much as we could about our future home. Tom's business phone number is 828 337 5712. We live in Asheville North Carlina.. Upon calling, Tom was polite and professinal. He explained carefully all that would be done and answered any questions i had. We set up a date to meet at the house, I called the seller to reconfirm, then Tom spoke to the seller as well. The inspection covered both the exterior and interior of the house. Included were items not operating, addressed major concerns, potential safety hazards,and deferred cost items(those things that might need repair or replacement in years to come due to normal wear and tear.). There was a photo summary, exterior and interior inspection and many check lists and appropriate comments. Each and every living space was covered and Tom spent about 3 hours at work. No stone was left unturned. The report was 18 pages long and ready in 24 hours. He e mailed it to us as we decided. The last 15 pages consisted of general information very useful for future reference. Tom brings all the tools he needs to do the job right. He is an easygoing yet professional man who was always ready to answer anything the buyer might want to know. I would recommend him to you with no reservation! Thanks Tom, we bought the house!

Tom was prompt, arriving before I did and had started the inspection by already climbing up on the roofline and speaking with the current home owners who were present at the beginning of the inspection to answer any questions and provide the inspector with paperwork on recently updated systems for the home.  

Tom was very informative and answered all of my questions.  As a first time homebuyer, I had a series of questions at every turn which Tom was happy to answer.  He quickly noticed by my series of questions and notebook of questions from research I had done that the inspection would most likely take longer than the typical questioned time.  He welcomed the questions but wanted me to make sure I had the extra time it would take.  The inspection took over an hour and a half longer than originally scheduled, but he was happy to do so and the time was well spent!  My confidence in my home purchase increased, and I had great suggestions as to how to make improvements and prioritize.  I now have plans for improving my home that are much more cost savings than what I had started to plan.

Tom was welcoming to my family stopping in at different points throughout the inspection and welcomed their questions and input as well.  We all thought he was very friendly and informative, presenting as very genuine and personable.  He crawled the extra mile with me in the crawl space to examine every inch.  

His report was thorough and received promptly, that very evening - before the expected morning delivery!

Tom was also great with calling and emailing following up to make sure that I received the inspection and to make sure I didn't have any questions or concerns.

Tom's knowledge of systems was great.  I am now much more knowledgable about some of these systems in general and specifically in regards to my future home.  His ability to convey information to laymen and bring up your understanding was exceptional.

Tom was also courteous to the homeowners, one of whom has a sensitivity to electromagnetic fields and wireless signals.  He explained the radon detector technology which needed to run in the home for 24 hours and made sure that this device was acceptable to be in the home without creating duress for the homeowners.  He was also mindful of placement in regards to small children in the home.

I will use Tom again in the future for sure, and my family and friends that were present and met Tom are planning on using him in their future purchases....which says a lot considering they all have had past home purchases and have experience with other home inspectors in the area.

Tom was very thorough and professional.  He pointed out anything anything that warranted monitoring or needed to be addressed.  The inspection took a little over four hours.  He was open to (and invited) questions about anything that was a concern.

Tom took the time to do a thorough and professional inspection, covering every inch of our house from top to bottom, outside and inside. It was obvious that he is up-to-date with all the code and inspection information necessary and is very knowledgeable about what he does.
He emailed as his report (44 pages!) the next day. It was quite thorough, informative and well-organized  and had many full-colored photos and worthy recommendations. He was so meticulous in his inspection that he located several problems in our house that we were totally unaware of.
We found Tom to be courteous, efficient, professional and respectful. He spent several hours doing the inspection and it was a pleasure having him in our home.
