Excavation
With predictable but no unusual circumstances, a job that may take 6 weeks took four months. The contractor felt some soil conditions warranted the footer to be dug deeper. A soil engineer (hired by myself) and the county inspector felt that the soil was appropriately firm not to have need the extra excavation. The job proceeded to completion but two failed inspections needed to be corrected before being approved. The first was for faulty foundation drain installation and the second for the gravel portion of the slab not being the correct depth in all areas. We disagreed on who would be responsible for the extra material and labor required above the contract price. No extra work was authorized as was required by the contract before extra work was to be performed. We settled the difference between ourselves.
