Kent Barrow Construction Co

Upon recommendation, I called Kent Barrow at Barrow Construction Company to give me an estimate as to how much that labor would cost to replace the roof from the damaged asphalt shingle roof to a metal roof. It was agreed upon that we w ould go to Lowe's Builders after he took measurements on the amount of material needed and that I would pay for separately. I purchased the heaviest high quality metal being in a high wind zone area. The material was a bit over $6000.00. He proceeded with the installation of the roof. My next contact was from my neighbor who had stated that a nice job had been done. upon his comment, I payed him in good fith knowing that it would be after Christmas before i could inspect the job. When I did so my first suspect that something was wrong was that I noticed that the edges of the metal was popping up. It was loose. When I put my hand under the roofing the fascia board was dust it was so rotten. The sheets of metal were cut and layed unevenly. The metal was cut gagged. My landlord confronted him about this. My landlord said that my neighbor had even served them beer on the job. I called Mr. Barrow about correcting this and it took him weeks. After this the more I looked for the more I found. The warranty for the metal was negated because of the faulty application of the roofing. I contacted my attorney. After dialog between attorneys, my attorney felt that it would cost me more in legal expense than to just fix it. In the meantime I had contacted another contractor. Picture after picture was taken which I have in my possession and will be glad to share. I had several other carpenters evaluate and write letters as well. All evaluations were consistent and all were appalled by what they saw. I took this to the NC Board of Contractors. Month after month went by.Hurricane season approached and I did not feel that I could take the risk of an unsecured roof. I got my second contractor Mr. Daniel Falkowski who I might add did an excellent job in the repair. He had to remove a number of the metal sheets. He took more pictures. The finding were more rotten roofing and fascia board, a hole in the roof that was just covered over and not repaired, more jagged cut metal, an improperly installed ridgecap, screw holes in the metal but no screws. I had payed for the roofing felt that was never installed. I have pictures, and all the receipts to prove. The Board for what ever reason dismissed the case despite pictures, testimonials and receipts. The system failed me but this cannot be allowed to happen to another innocent person. I will be glad to submit pictures as well. The repairs to make the roof secure cost me another $850.00 in labor and materials. This was a disgrace and dutiful negligence.
