+ -1 moreWe own a rental home in the Outer Banks of North Carolina. We contracted with OBX Home Care (Owner: Mike Anderson; P.O. Box 2801, Kitty Hawk, NC 27949; Tel. 252-207-1230; obxhomecare@gmail.com) for the installation of windows as well as the repair of window mechanisms. Mr. Anderson asked for a 50% down payment in the amount of $4,200.00. He cashed the check and now, over 16 months later, has disappeared. We received a few email from him promising to undertake the work but nothing -- not one bit of work -- has been undertaken. Over a year ago, he stopped responding to phone calls and email and has been unreachable. We have filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and with the North Carolina Department of Justice Consumer Protection Division. We are planning to pursue legal action. Beware. He may have relocated to the Norfolk, Virginia area, though this is just "rumor" provided by other Outer Banks business contacts.
Description of Work: We entered into a contract with OBX Home Care of Kitty Hawk, NC. The owner received a 50% down payment, cashed the check, and then, after several email claiming various reasons that the work was being delayed due to a problem acquiring parts, ceased all communications with us. + -1 moreMike Anderson did a terrific job. The project was completed on schedule and on budget. I was very pleased with the finished product. Mike built the closet exaxtly as I wanted. He left the worksite neat and clean at the end of each day. He was easy to work with and is a skilled craftsman. I would not hesitate to use him again.
Description of Work: Construction of an outside storage closet and vinyl siding repairs on my beach rental house in Corolla.

+ -1 moreStarted out well and ended with me spending more money to fix his work.
Description of Work: Mike was recommended by Realtor Deb Orth. Mike Andersen provided: Remodel of a mud room/Laundry room/powder room He added a corner shower to the powder room, relocated the plumbing for the hot water heater and waher and dryer. The sub floors were rotted so the floor was redone, the walls were painted, a hot water heater was installed and vanity and toilet were installed along with a medicine cabinet and light. Mike stared out looking like a great find! He was reasonably priced and he showed up when he said he would and worked hard to get the job completed. I found out later that his work was "the minimum" he could get away with. All the water supply lines were cheap 1/2" PVC and they leaked in the wall and had to be repaired by another contractor. The water leaked into the crawl space AFTER a vapor barrier was installed causing a musty smell and I had to buy a fan to blow the water out after it was fixed. After many calls and emails to Mike went unacknowledged, I gave up. POOR quality and once he got his money, he was non-responsive. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!
