to stand up to waterfront storms. Gene's standards are much higher than
the average builder's and also higher than the code. Several times he
had the subs rebuild something that he didn't like. We have not had one
problem during any of the hurricanes and/or nor'easters that have
occurred in the past few years. The home was completed in approximately
5 months. Our home is a William Poole design but Gene gave us many helpful suggestions
to make it even better than it was originally designed. We love it!
Gene helped us out with damage we had on our lower level with hurricane Irene. He did a great job replacing all the wood trim, doors and locking hardware.
Genco also replaced for me a broken cooktop. The new cooktop that I picked out was not exactly the same size as the old one. Gene had no problem cutting into the counter top and making the new cooktop fit as if the counter was built around it.
A few things I really liked as a homeowner about Gene Martin and Genco was that I could get a return phone call. You may think thats a very simple thing, but in our area, its not really such a simple thing to get a contractor to return a phone call. I could get in touch with him without much trouble at all, I would get phone call updates, I would get calls about prices, I would get a call to ask if I was happy with the work. Also, as a homeowner, besides the excellent quality of work Gene always performed, I was thrilled with the way after each job the area he was working in was cleaned up. Again, you may think this isn't a big deal, but to me, it really is. The work, I knew with Gene, was always going to be done right, as efficiently and quickly as possibly and at a fair price, but to not have to clean up after a construction project, is wonderful.
