The work was never finished although Beach Painting was paid the 50% balance due on the $6,500 total for the job upon receipt of the invoice. This was my error but shows good faith on my behalf. They left electric cover plates and light switch covers off with wires exposed/hanging, they did not put the ceiling lights or ceiling fans back up with wires left hanging/exposed, they did not replace the fire/smoke alarms with wires left exposed/hanging, they did not replace the trim around the first floor sliding door nor do I know where it is, the paint in the 2nd floor bath cracked and chipped within a week of the work although we waited to use the shower for extra drying time, they left broken vanity lights (broken deep in the sockets needing repair) in both the first and second floor bathrooms, they did not remove the chair rail in the first floor bath prior to painting and left the pink paint along the edge of the chair rail instead of removing the rail, painting the new color (blue) with a smooth transition, then the chair rail should have been put back up with clear waterproof caulking along the edge (same as a previous professional job). They also left several containers of toxic wastes (buckets and sprayers) in my yard and on my front and back decks, and broke several of the seashell pavers in our front yard from their heavy equipment left for weeks. They also ran the air conditioning in the "ON" mode about 60 degrees with the doors and windows side open which burned out my compressor in the hot weather/humidity. I had to replace the compressor and pay extremely high power bills. The crew was also stoned, drunk and/or high on cocaine every day and spent time I was charged for getting "high" in their vehicles or in their friend's vehicles that dropped by the house in my driveway. I then received an invoice for an additional $7,000.00 for installing 27 linear feet of "chair rail" along the stairway wall which was actually a cheap trim/molding. I had requested the brown wooden interior stair rails be sanded, primed and painted a soft 'white' called "Moonstruck". Beach Painting did not sand nor prime the wood and left the brown wood showing through in many areas. There are also areas of dried paint drips/sap, cracks, holes and several gaps/holes in the stair rails. I tried to meet with the owner of Beach Painting, Jim Ashe, on several occasions but he failed to show up or call to let me know he wasn't coming. After 2-3 months and several emails to Jim and calls to his office leaving voice mail messages on his office and cell phones, trying to set up meetings through his wife, Charlotte (she advised Jim sets his own appts.), Jim finally showed up with his crew supervisor around September, 2009. In our meeting, I confirmed if this was the first time he had seen the "finished" job which he confirmed it was. He had not seen the work before the final invoice nor the invoice for the additional $7,000.00. Jim also told me to my face several times during our meeting that he did not want to do the job. I kindly held my composure and replied I knew he didn't want to do the job ~ what else was I to say?? Jim was "to stew over" our meeting and get back to me within a week to come to some resolution. I never heard back from Jim. Instead he turned me over to a collection agency and now an attorney to collect the additional $7,000 plus growing interest. I am waiting for their reply over a year later to no avail. My house remains in the same condition they left it in July, 2009 which is basically unlivable and unsafe. I have taken many digital pictures and am fully prepared to proceed through legal action if necessary which I relayed in writing to the collection agency's attorney. I've talked to many contractors and had several come to my home as witnesses for the poor work/lack of work performed and to see how Jim came up with $7,000 for the poor work they did for such a ridiculous charge. Several local residents have told me they or someone they know have experienced the same problem(s) with Beach Painting. It's difficult to believe they are able to keep their business in operation for many reasons. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND FOR ANY TYPE OF WORK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
