POSITIVE: They were typically agreeable to work with. The duct work was OK overall. They put white goop on the duct seams, which I had never seen done before. This makes it more air tight. They did a good job overall in cutting wholes through the floor for the vents.
NEGATIVE: Instead of using expanding insulated sleeves for the duct work, they used regular insulation and duct tape. They thought they did a good job, but in some places the tape and insulation came undone within two weeks. A sleeve would not become untaped, there is no tape.
One place where they cut a whole through the floor, they had to snake the duct work to twist around. If they had just moved the floor vent a few feet one way, this would not have been necessary.
For one new supply duct, my guess is that they ran out of metal duct, so to make what they had work, they repositioned my dryer duct. I thought this was dangerous. The metal dryer duct work was already a 25 foot +/- run to the outside. Dryer lint is a major source of house fires. I did not want any kinks in my dryer duct work to cause a house fire.
My house has a crawl space. Where they installed a floor vent in the far side of the crawl space, they threw the wooden pieces of the cut flooring in an obscure corner and left it. I thought this was lazy and unprofessional. They thought I would never see it. Guess what, I saw it.
Upon my request and with my initial refusal of payment, they did fix most of my issues except for the biggest one.
The biggest problem I had with them was that I specifically asked them to wire my Skuttle Steam humidifier to NOT control the furnace blower. They failed. It was wired differently at least twice but this still did NOT fix the problem. They could have used a mechanical sail as a switching mechanism but they refused or couldn't figure it out. Their final solution was to lower the humidifier setting so it would not engage the furnace blower, thinking I would not notice it until I paid them their money. Sometimes in the winter my house blower runs for DAYS because the humidifer keeps it activated.
Jason pressured me into paying All Year before I was satisfied with the work they did. He made me feel like I was a skum bag, like I was not going to pay them or I was asking too much for giving me what I requested.
After the fact, I learned that both Honeywell and Aprilaire humidier models allow homeowners the choice of 1). Having the humidifier control the furnace blower until the humidity levels rises sufficiently (ACTIVE) or 2). Requiring the furnace blower to be active AND the humidistat to be engaged to activate the humidifier (PASSIVE). This was NOT available with the Skuttle Steam humidifier.
I would NOT use All Year again, at least until they fix my problem. I am currently seeking someone else to upgrade my Skuttle Steam humidifer to use a sail switch and 240v model AND to use an Aprilaire bypass humidifer to be the primary humidier, that has a switch mechanism allowing it to NOT control the blower.
