Dale Warden went above and beyond when repairing our mower. Our two year old push mower wouldn't start after sitting in the garage over the winter. After doing some searching on Angie's List, I decided to give Warden's a try. He was very prompt at returning my call, diagnosed the problem over the phone, and gave me a quote I found reasonable. This was two days before July 4th and he informed me he would be out of town the following week. I figured it would probably be a couple of weeks before he'd be able to get to it. He told me if I could get the mower to him within a couple of hours, he'd have it fixed the next day. My mower was ready the next morning. Great service, indeed! But that's not all. About 5 minutes after leaving his shop, my phone rings. He informs me that I had written the check for more than the actual bill. My response, "thank you, please keep the check." I would recommend him a thousand times over.
I was having problems starting the mower after it had run for 15 or 20 minutes. I had to let it cool down-some times over an hour before it would start again. He fixed that too. If you live in this area and have a problem with your mower-riding, push, whatever, call Mr. Warden and talk to him before talking with anyone else. I talked to the so called expert at ACE Hardware, on Randleman Rd and he had no clue what it could be and could give me no guess as to what it might cost. One very helpful hint in finding Warden's Small Engine Clinic. It is not a store front. His shop is in back of his house at 5336 Coble Church Rd. He has a very small sign attached to his mail box. You have to be looking for it or you'll miss it. When you turn in the drive you go up a very long cobble stone drive way to his shop.
To my surprise, Dale called me on Thursday April 25 and said the mower was ready. I picked it up on Friday morning. Dale explained what he had done - Rebuilt the carburetor, New sparkplug, Changed the oil, New starter rope, New gas cap (mine was broken), Cleaned the fly wheel and module, Set Air Gap on Module, Sharpened the blade and Cleaned under the deck. Checked the timing and Adjusted the transmission belt (I'm glad he did because I had forgotten to tell him that the self-propelled feature did not work as well as I thought it should).
I finally got to mow with the mower this past Saturday (the rain and cold finally abated for a day or two) and it ran like a new mower. Thanks Dale.
Total cost for all of this was $65 (labor) + 43.81 parts + 2.96 tax for a total of 111.77. A great deal
Took a while to take items to shop.
Repaired quickly, once we agreed on the work (the and more from above).
Good price based on opinion and little experience, I did not shop around since options are limited.
A couple days later, as promised, he called to say it was ready. As it turned out it needed a new gas line (which had rotted), rebuilding of the carburetor, complete cleaning and oil change and spark plug and filter (of course) and he sharpened the blade. Parts cost about $35 and with labor my total bill was right around $100, which was much less than I expected.
Since this guy works from home you have to call first to make sure he's there for drop off or pickup. (He also has a large trailer so could probably pickup for you; I didn't need to ask about that.) He answered every voicemail promptly and assured me that keeping customers happy is his top priority. It was so refreshing to meet someone who loves his job and isn't just trying to make an extra buck. He also mentioned that he regularly takes small engine classes to stay on top of the latest technologies (computers, etc.), so I'm confident he could handle much more complicated repairs than mine.
I recommend Mr. Warden with complete confidence. I think he's honest, fair, and does good work for a great price. I wouldn't go anywhere else!
