$20,000
On The Ball was subcontracted by the woman I hired to landscape our yard.  When the contract was drawn up the deal was to have On The Ball install an irrigation system, bring in dirt to build up low areas, lay sod, and fix our ditches so that they would drain properly.  After signing the contract and providing the first half of the agreed upon price up front (I now know that it should set off red flags when a contractor requests a large portion or all of the money up front) I was told that On The Ball misquoted the job and would need another $2,000 to do the job (bringing the total cost of the project to $20,000).  I agreed to pay the extra money since they agreed to get the job done before my husband returned from a his deployment to Iraq.
Everything seemed to be going well, until the first weekend after the installation of our irrigation system.  There was a large crack in one of the pipes and it leaked the entire weekend.  Before we realized there was a leak enough water had escaped to raise our water bill to over $300.  The guys from On The Ball never apologized, but blamed the problem on the pipe and fixed it.  The irrigation system only worked for the first year and has not worked since.  I'm in the process of hiring someone else to come out and fix it.
Once On The Ball was "finished" with the job, I called them to ask why they never fixed our ditches (it was written in our contract and figured into the price that they would take care of the ditches in front of my house.)  They told me that they could not touch the ditches because from the center of the road to the ditch belonged to the county.  Even after I told the guys at On The Ball that I lived on a privately owned and maintained road and the county did not have right of way or jurisdiction over our ditches, they still refused to fix the ditches.  They took our money and then refused to finish the job.
