Called Bob and it took about a week to set up a date for him to come out to give an estimate. After he and his partner look at the job they gave me a price of $3300.00. We decided to give a local business a chance even though they were not on Angie's List. We called to set up a date to begin the work. We played phone tag for about another week then his partner showed up with another Tree Service Company with him. They looked at the job again and wanted to go up on the price. They decided they would do it for the agreed upon price. They wanted to do a new agreement so they could use the insurance certificate of the new company (Byrd's Tree Service, who I had called and left a message to get an estimate from them, they never returned my call, 1 strike). He said I would have a new agreement and the insurance certificate by the following morning, this was Thursday evening, 8-8-13. I did not receive the new agreement until around 11 P.M. Friday night 8-9-13 and they wanted to start Saturday morning. There was an error on the agreement, only 7 trees and no stump grinding (2nd strike). He was supposed to send me a new agreement with the correct information. he did not send it, I called and he would not answer his phone. I left him a message to not show up Saturday because they could not start the work without a correct agreement. Bob called me Saturday morning and said he had been waiting in th street in front of my house and that no one else had shown up. I told him what transpired the evening before. He said Mr. Byrd called him to confirm the number of trees. He said he would try to find someone else to help him with the job. I explained that would not be necessary under the circumstances. Mr. Byrd called later that day to inform me he would decline the job. I had left a voice message the evening before that he would not be doing the job. Just a guess but I suspect the job was too big for Bob and his partner. I also suspect he did not have insurance and that since I had explained to him that no one worked on my house or property without insurance, he was trying to subcontract it out to someone who had insurance. Advertises by word of mouth and Craig's List. I would stay far away from these guy's. I think it is a good thing we parted company or I feel I would have had a world of problems with this job. Tom H.
