DORTON'S HEATING & AIR

The Dorton employee showed up on time and was professional. He advised that the coolant was low after checking the outdoor unit and indoor coil box, as well as drain lines. He loaded 3.5 pounds into the system; which gave us cool A/C inside; charging $379. Within 5 days, the problem returned. Dorton employee came out again, this time checking for leaks. He said the coil was leaking, but outdoor unit was ok. Dorton seemingly didn't initially think to check for leaks despite the unit being so low in coolant (i.e., and all my $379 worth of coolant immediately leaked out). He advised we could replace coil only, or entire system if desired since it was 12 years old. I called another service for a second opinion. I watched the new service guy locate coolant leaks on the outside unit AND the coil with his leak detector wand. Jamie Dorton offered to apply the original service call to the next repair. Especially after I watched another HVAC specialist locate leaks on my outdoor unit - when Dorton said there were none - I didn't have any confidence in Dorton and I used the other service for a new HVAC system. I talked with Jamie Dorton on phone and asked for a refund of the cost of coolant I was charged, but I felt I should pay for the service appointment. Jamie Dorton agreed to refund. I didn't get a refund within 2 weeks. I contacted him again to inquire about the refund, and he didn't get back to me. Unfortunately, I had a very disappointing experience with Dorton Heating and Cooling. Even if we call the service call an error for failure to check leaks and not incompetence, his failure to follow through on the agreed refund makes it unprofessional at best and lacking integrity at worst. :(

It went well, I would definitely recommend them. It was family-owned and a good company.

They are an A company.

Very polite and quick to respond.  Thoroughly evaluated the system to let us know the cause and necessary repair to the problem.   Pricing seemed reasonable. 

Very responsive to coming out and wanting to get the work done ASAP.  Estimate was much less than competitor who advertises much more. Due to in-stock issues, our system was upgraded to higher-end equipment for same price.  I think the equipment is more advanced than their installers, i.e., could have set up zones within the system and this was never discussed. There was a minor problem with installation; it was fixed promptly.  Workers were very polite and friendly.  Had an issue about a month after it was installed and again they were very responsive and prompt.

Other companies came out and told me I needed major work done.  He came out and solved the problem right away.  He had an excellent personality, and also saved me a lot of money.

Everything turned out great.  Heating and air conditioning is not cheap so he gave us several estimates based how what we needed and what we wanted.  It was helpful to get several pricing ranges because we felt like we bought what we needed.  They were very respectful and reasonable, and they were pleasant to work with.  The work they did was good.  Their solution to our problem was quite a bit cheaper than the solutions that other companies gave us.  Our house was built in the 1900s so the grates are not the standard size.  They cut the holes big enough for our grates which means they did some custom work but didn’t charge us any extra.

He arrived on time and honored my Angie’s List discount.  He was very pleasant to work.

The repairs seemed expensive, but the two units are 28 years old.  There was no pressure to make the repairs.  Much better by head and shoulders than their competitor who I suspect of stalling a repair in order to force me to buy a new unit. 

At approximately 9:00 pm in the evening, I noticed a Dorton's truck in my neighborhood. Although it was late at night, I called Dorton's and asked if the technician could stop by and  look at my AC unit because the AC unit  was not blowing cold air. Tim, the technician, returned my call and came to my home at approximately 9:15pm. I thought this was exceptional service. Tim looked at the unit and explained what was wrong.  Tim quoted me a price that I thought was a fair price and we scheduled the work. The air conditioner is currently working well and I would be sure to call Tim and Dorton's again in the future.  Thank you for exceptional service and a job well done.

I called at about 7:30 AM on New Year's Eve. A technician called back in about 30 minutes and said he could be at my home around lunch time. He also said he would call before coming. As promised he called around 11:15 and arrived in about 30 minutes after that. He diagnosed the problem in about 15 minutes and had it repaired in about another 15 minutes.

Called Dorton's and left a message. Received a call back within 20 minutes to set up an appointment later in the day. Repair person showed up on time and repaired the damaged hose within 15 minutes. Repair person showed me the damaged hose and explained to me how the problem occurred to hopefully prevent this from happening again in the future. The work was completed quickly and to my satisfaction.

Tech arrived early and completed the job quckly. The price was very reasonable for the work completed.

It went well at first. Dorton had someone out pretty quickly after my first call. But the drain line clogged again and started leaking water through my ceiling for a second time. So I called back on Thursday and was told someone would be out Friday to put in a brand new line. This didn't happen and nobody called to tell me that a technician wasn't going to show up. After about 4 phone calls I was told someone would be out first thing Monday to fix the problem. Monday morning I received a call saying they would be out Tuesday morning. It's Tuesday now and nobody has come by and I have tried calling each of the representatives I spoke with and nobody has answered their phone or returned my calls. The main issue for me at this point is that I am supposed to have my hardwood floors refinished this afternoon and now that won't happen because I have no A/C, without A/C it will be too hot in the house for the floors to dry. I have not asked for any discounts or refunds during this entire experience, I just wanted these folks to show up and do what they said they would do.

Jamie and his team did a fantastic job. They were very busy with service work due the extreme heat in July in Charlotte, but they scheduled our installation over a 1 1/2 day period and finished the job. They were very professional and knowledgeable. Our job was a little challenging since our outdoor units had to be relocated about 10 feet away with lines running under a concrete stairway. They carefully planned our job with the electrician and had our new equipment operating in a very timely fashion.

He showed up early and was very honest with me. I have an incredibly old air conditioner and he let me know that I really needed to replace it and that having him service it at this point would be a waste of money. He took his time to explain everything to me, and then he even waived the service fee since no work was performed.

Whole experience was great!

I called at noon and spoke with owner Jamie Dorton and promptly got a service call from Tim at 1:00. He quickly diagnosed the problem, taking care not to dirty our floors by taking his shoes off at the door, and had fixed the problem by 2:00. I can now feel the cool air coming in and I am so thankful!

No cold air from upstairs unit. Serviceman Tim came and checked system, noticed capacitor was not fully functioning and so compressor was not running, only the fan. Replaced capacitor with a spare I had on hand and showed me how to do it for future reference. Also, checked refrigerant level and topped it off for us, just in time for today's 98 degree temps. Arrived within 2 hours of my call. Highly recommend and we will certainly use them again.

My air conditioner died on a hot Sunday night (not unexpected as I knew the air and furnace were on their last legs). Jamie Dorton arrived on time Monday morning for an appointment and provided five different estimates with a wide variety of equipment and prices to choose from. His competitors either couldn't make it out to give an estimate for several days, or couldn't come near his prices. With temperatures pushing 100 in a late June heat wave that forced me to stay at a hotel, Jamie also offered to rearrange his work schedule in order to install the new furnace and air conditioner the following day. The decision to go with Dorton's Heating and Air was a no-brainer. Jamie arrived on time Tuesday morning and the job was completed a few hours ahead of schedule. I had cool air that afternoon. Jamie and his staff were courteous and professional throughout, and cleaned all areas before leaving. He also helped on paperwork needed for rebates and a tax credit that brought the price down considerably.

Called Dorton's. Came out day/time scheduled to determine filter size. Ordered filter and installed. Provided me with filter information and size so that I could order the filters myself, next time.
