A few days later (only about 48 hours after we'd said we wanted to move forward with all of the work), he sent two individuals back to complete the work. They too were professional, kind, prompt, and thorough. They had to repaint part of the wood trim on our house, and when I brought them the wrong paint color, they pointed it out and helped me find the right one. Their work looks beautiful, they were respectful of our home, and they were a pleasure to have around.
The only (very minor!) feedback I would have is that it would have been nice to know that he wouldn't be the one performing the work in advance; it was just a surprise to have two new people show up at our house. In addition, it seemed these two people weren't as prepared as they could have been, as they had to call him a few times to ask questions about the bid.
One note is that we inadvertently got a "comparison bid" on this work, because our real estate agent agreed to pay for it but wanted to get a quote from the vendor he knows. We begrudgingly did this, and the other vendor (not sure of the name) was actually higher and said the work would take longer. So then we were permitted to move forward with Animals Be Gone!
This was a great example of the difference in having trained, experienced technicians. The first company that came didn't even ask where the smell was coming from. They just wandered around a bit and said they couldn't find it. But Animals Be Gone knew what they were doing and I immediately felt they were committed to finding it.
The only suggestion I have is that I wish the technicians included spraying some sort of disinfectant in the area after they find the animal. I had assumed that was part of the service but it was not. I went and bought some Lysol and sprayed it myself later on. Not a big deal but would have been nice if they had carried something with them and handled that as part of the service.
Regardless, if I have additional issues in the future, i will call Animals Be Gone first.
The company I decided on charged $600 (including some additional services not in the original scope) and did not charge a call out/assessment fee. The primary lesson learnt here is to absolutely clarify if there is a cost associated with requesting an onsite quote when dealing with Wildlife Removal companies.
There wasn't enough supervision of the work crew to assure that the metal flashing was installed correctly at the inside and outside corners of the joint between the fascia and the roof deck. I had to point out several areas that were not correctly finished. As this work was part of a larger project, two areas had to be completed by the gutter contractor. I was also a bit dismayed at the lack of care exhibited by the workers as to the potential damage their ladders might cause to the Trex deck.
The first time we called Animals Be Gone we were having trouble with squirrels crewing on various part of our house. Russ and his assistant checked the exterior of the house, crawl space, attic and garage thoroughly. He recommended a couple of preventative exclusion measures for vulnerable areas. This included wire mesh to replace the vinyl screen on one of the roof vents and wire mesh for the attic and crawl space vents (both of which had signs of disturbance or chewing). Russ gave me an estimate for all of the necessary and recommended work. I picked the most urgent jobs to get taken care of first. Russ double checked that there were no creatures in the damaged soffit, repaired and painted that area and patched the roof on our shed. All that work looked great so I had him return a month later to finish the recommended exclusion work. Russ painted the attic vents before attaching the wire mesh so it all looked very tidy and neatly finished. Same for the crawl space vents.
Most recently I called Russ because yellow jackets had exploited a gap in our siding and began making their way into the living spaces of the house. Russ put me on his busy calendar and came out within a couple of days. He went by the house and called me while I was at work so I wouldn't have to take time off and wait at the house. I was fine with the price and asked him to proceed with treatment and exclusion of the current problem area. The gap in the siding was filled as well as new caulking applied to the surrounding trim and window areas. Russ warned me that we would continue to see yellow jackets in the house for a while but eventually we should stop seeing them. He was correct. The guy knows what he is doing.
I'll call Animals Be Gone anytime I have trouble with pests. They also use humane removal practices if creatures have to be extracted from an area.
woodpecker had pecked 2 holes in the second story of our house. The
people at Animals Be Gone answered the phone on my first call and set up
an appointment to look at the problem. I told them that as long as
they gave me 15 min to get to the house that I could be there any time.
They told me they would come out the next day and would call me 15 min
before they got there. The next day they called 15 min before and we
met at the house. They looked at the holes and said that as long as the
birds were not in there and there were no nests they could cover the
holes (I had no paint for the house and they weren't sure they could
match it) and put reflective strips at the corners of the house to scare
any future birds away. I agreed and let them get to work. I came back
out to inspect the work and they had done a great job, they even
matched the color perfectly! I have not had any problems with
woodpeckers since. They were friendly, prompt, and a pleasure to work
with.
time, and advised us on how they would handle our problem with
squirrels that have nested in our attic. The amazing thing was that
they explained that we would not need them to do some expensive work
since we were having our siding replaced by another company very soon.
They just told us what the siding installers could do in order to
prevent future infestations, and they explained that the noise and
turmoil of the siding job would likely drive out the squirrels that are
there now. If there are any that do remain however, we can call them to
come back and take care of trapping and removing them. It is
fantastic to find a contractor that chooses honesty over making a quick
buck. I would use them for future work in a second, and I think other
folks would be extremely satisfied with them also.
