The Slab lacked ANY turned down edges and 24 days later, is flaking significantly from poor finishing.  The requirement for turned down edges was narrowed to a few designated edges to reduce the effort and scope so the task would be easier.   Sub contractor was never even advised; obfuscation.
- Sufficient  professionalism, leadership, and integrity would have prevented the project from falling a week behind schedule and the farm owner from assuming direct control and supervision of the framing task.  Had the customer not assumed the supervision belonging to and promised by Top Choice, the project would have failed.
- A sign: Crew complained constantly to the customer of inadequate, late, or insufficient pay.
- Another sign: Incorrect and inflated costs/charges on invoices.  Customer should NOT have to see or discuss a 50% increase not previously understood.

The contractor from Top Choice Home Improvement told me that he could do this job. They had to take a wall out between two small bedrooms and make it one big bedroom. After they removed the wall, the hardboard floors were squeaking. The wall was into the floor with studs, so after they removed the wall, the bedroom and the bathroom floors squeaked. At first they did not want to fix it. After a month the man came back. He went underneath the house and put screws through the hardboard floors. I paid $11 000 for these floors from loans. The screws was coming through the floor in the bedroom. If I would walk barefoot on the floor, the screws would tear my feet up. He just unscrewed it a little bit in order to fix it. They left it like that and I had to pay for it. My floors still squeak. They also built me a walk-in closet. They painted the wall and while they were waiting for the paint to dry, they put the wall brackets up for the shelf in the top of the closet. The shelf was too high. I could not reach the shelf without standing on a ladder. I asked my son to take it off and make it lower. When he took the wooden shelf off, the brackets tore the paint from the wall, because the paint was wet when they put the brackets in. So I had a lot of puttying to do. I had blue tape about three inches wide to go around the floor. They put paper down to cover the hardboard floors, instead of taken the tape up. I had to order more hardboard floors, and I had to order more baseboard moulding. They put the baseboard moulding down, which was the color of my oak floor. They masked the blue tape down on the floor and they put the moulding on top of it. The wall is a mess. I had to pay another guy to come and redo the bathroom floor, because the panels were just laying on the floor. I paid them all the money that they wanted, but they did sloppy work. The guy did the work the way he wanted it - not like I wanted it. The only way I could get in touch with the man, was a cellphone number. He did not have a home number, or an address for the company. Just Top Choice, with a cellphone number. You can not get in touch with him. He does not answer the phone when he knows it is you calling. He had his foreman came in. This man did the plumbing, the painting, he did everything. He had to fix the crooked sink in the bathroom. The outlets on the bathroom wall had holes underneath the plates. The GFI switch was put in upside down. It is still upside down. I spent $13 500 and I still needed somebody to come and fix the hardboard floors. When they left, I had to pay someone to come and clean the house.

"this customer forgot to say that she contacted topchoice after a company came in and tore out studds and put the sheetrock in backwards,it had to be corrected before anything else could be done.there were curtain walls put in place to controll dust.customer was asked at what she wanted shelves and we marked for her before putting up .the owner spoke wiyh this lady multiple times and drove to home to correct any thing she had problems with.On this house when we got there the plunbing underneath wasran and not hooked up correctly, this customer was really upset with the first guys that took advantage of her and stole all her materials she had bought.which is why we had her go to lowes with us so she could pick out what she wanted.she is a sweet lady but she just was really sour about the first company and i tried to help her then she turned on me.should have seen it coming from the start.mrs i will be contacting you to review anything you feel i shorted you on."

My mother (76 yrs old) originally contracted with Top Choice Home Improvements for the job.  They took half of the agreed upon fee (labor estimate) up front and she wrote a check for the remaining amount near the end of the job at the contractors request.  This was done without having conducted a final walk-thru inspection.  She enlisted my assistance due to her concerns and we discovered a long list of outstanding issues...
*switches & outlets not installed properly and poorly aligned w/ cover plates
*badly done drywall patchwork to match existing walls and ceiling
*closet doors not properly hung (poor alignment)
*pocket door missing necessary latch hardware
*toilet leaking at base
*bathroom floor tiles & grout cracking (see next item)
*floor has major squeaking noise due to increased "flex" in areas where walls were moved (bed & bathroom)
*no flooring support provided as originally agreed upon

The contractor refused to return and ignored all forms of contact for a period of approx. one month.  They finally did return to reinforce the floor and repair the bathroom floor tile.
*instead of adding structural reinforcement inside the crawl space the contractor (owner) had one of his employees use a drill to install screws between the original subsurface flooring and the newly preinstalled hardwood flooring.  The person with the drill applied a screw where ever the owner tapped his foot from above.  Additionally, only one tile was removed in the bathroom and eight screws were installed into the floor from inside the bathroom.

He left stating that his work was done according to code...

I hired another contractor to remove the "screws" and reinforce the floor using proper support (footers & 4x4x8's/12's)...another
to repair the tile and toilet mess in the bathroom and another to repair the poorly done drywall patches.  My total out of pocket cost was in excess of $750.

I have photos, invoices and phone records (voice mail) for documentation.

Suffice it to say that I would not recomment this contractor to anyone...
