There are three different ways that people can be harm by this product. 1st, Spray Foam is a mixture of toxic chemicals that cure in 24 hours but if not mixed properly, it will not cure in 24 hours. And then the chemical might not mixed evenly so it may cure in some areas and not to some other areas. If it will not cure ,it will leave an odor and its supposed to be an irritant. 2nd, Sealing and air space seems to change the smell of the natural gas additives so that the gas leak might not be identified. 3rd, inadequate combustion air to a gas appliance can result to Carbon Monoxide gas which is dangerous and deadly. I believe all three of these consequences but Allied Spray Foam and not required to be licensed. I just thought I was just insulating my home, I was never warned. I had three coats of Zero VOC primer and three coats of VOC sealant to the Spray Foam to contain the fumes. I experienced nausea for one year before discovering a gas leak that might be present for the whole year. I lost consciousness and was injured, and I believe that the Carbon Monoxide was the possible cause. I was not able to prove this but I feel that my home is not safe.

The spray foam has made my home partially uninhabitable. It was installed in February 2016 and I have never been able to move in completely. I have many of my attic belongings in storage and boxes and furnishings piled in two rooms and a shed and a bathroom. Allied has not stood behind the product. Spray Foam Alliance said that when the foam is installed in cold temperatures it may emit excess 'amines' which are malodorous; also they said there are different grades of spray foam and some lower grades may offgas more. The manufacturer is SWD Urethane and they acted like they don't know what I am talking about. I tried having the attic ceiling spray painted with two coats of Sherwin Williams zero VOC product and that did not work so I called Green Building Supplies and they said that the AMF hard coat sealer always works in two coats. First I tested the AFM sealer at someone's rental over pet urine and three coats sealed it perfectly and I could breath fine. So I had three coats applied to my attic ceiling but that did not remove the odors. I had also rented a commercial fan to try to evacuate the air space after the S/W paint. I also purchased a high BTU portable AC/fan that is vented out the roof which I have run. Would you guess that running fans has elevated my electrical bill rather than lowering it? What a surprise! I believe I am out a couple thousands of dollars on remedies and storage so far and without the comfort of a well organized home with livable space.

I hired Scott a few years ago to encapsulate my crawl space. Great guys, professional and thorough. I was in the market for additional work to seal my attic and increase insulation under my master suite that sits over the garage. Honest, fair and professional. The whole crew has been together for a long time and they did a great job. With the second floor a/c and furnace in the attic just inches from the roof, encapsulating the attic will increase the seer rating of the system and should net a 65% or so decrease in overall heating and cooling costs. No brainer benefit for the cost. If you are considering spray foam insulation, these are the guys to hire.
