S and S Construction

The roof had developed a few minor leaks that had been patched, and several shingles had blown off. After almost 20 years, we knew it was time to replace it before it developed more problems. But it's hard to get referrals for this type of service because it's something that only has to be done every 20+ years. The few friends who did give us referrals had gotten the work done at least 15 years ago, and the companies that had done it were now out of business. We talked with several folks who would be best described as doing "handyman" work; not only could they put a new roof on your house, but they could also repair a leaky faucet or paint your spare bedroom. We wanted a company that specialized in roofing, had good references, and offered a guarantee. After asking around a bit more, we learned about S & S Construction through another friend. He gave them a great reference, so we called for a quote. S & S is a family-owned business. The owner's son came out and gave us an estimate, and we later stopped by their place of business to meet the owner and take another look at the shingle samples. Although this was not the least expensive quote we received, ultimately we decided to award the job to this company because we were impressed with their professionalism. S & S Construction gave us a specific timeframe for the project, but then called a week or so later to let us know they could do the job sooner. A crew of 13 showed up one sunny morning, removed the old roof, and installed the new one. Again, the communication was fantastic. They showed us that the product they brought with them was, in fact, the same one we had selected. They pointed out what was happening at each stage of the process. They removed ALL of the debris from the yard and COMPLETELY cleaned up the mess created by the removal of the old roof. They left the house and yard in the same condition in which they found it, except that it's more attractive because it now has a brand new roof. From start to finish, the job took half of one day. The owner called later in the day to make sure everything went okay, and then his son stopped by a few days later to check on the work. It's been about a year since this installation. The roof still looks great, and we're confident it will last for many years to come.
