This project was bid out to two other vendors. Certapro was neither the most nor least expensive quote yet I feel they were the best value in terms of a reasonable price for the amount and quality of work. I would recommend Certapro and will be using their services in the future.
"CertaPro Painters Hickory entered into a contract with [Member Name Removed] on June 4, 2014. Scope of job was to remove popcorn ceilings, paint ceilings, walls, and trims in 6 rooms – repair damaged wall in Master Bedroom and paint. Also to stain/ refinish 7 Exterior Doors. Cost of job was $5, 653.53. Job began on 8/21/2014. The customer, Mr. [Member Name Removed], halted the job after one day of work. He stated personal problems had come up. He was billed $631.11 for materials, paint, and one day of prep. labor. After almost 2 years we are puzzled Mrs. [Member Name Removed] would write this review on Angie’s List. Especially where NO WORK WAS DONE – only preparation. And, Mr. [Member Name Removed] has asked for work to be halted. Since customer’s wife stated work was completed on November 19, 2014 for $1,200 she must have had another contractor complete the work and has us confused with that contractor."
"Thanks for choosing CertaPro Painters. It was a pleasure serving your painting needs. We hope CertaPro can be of service to you in the future. Thank you for your positive review."
They did a good job with our upstairs b/t prep work and painting however I was disappointed with our basement. They left nails in the wall and there were numerous pre existing holes that had not been filled in. I contacted Phyllis via email expressing my concern and was told they did the job per the contract. Not true, the contract specifies prep work to be done at job which includes filling in holes, etc. Customer service is definitely not important to them in my opinion. For the amount of $ we paid, I felt like our satisfaction with the job should have been a priority and it clearly was not. We would not recommend this company for residential painting.,
"Thank you for choosing CertaPro Painters! It was a genuine pleasure meeting you and serving your painting needs. Thank you for your kind remarks. We look forward to working with you in the future."

"The customer's popcorn ceiling in the garage was badly failing and we were asked to remove the popcorn, repair, and repaint to a smooth. Three months after the job was completed the seams between the sheetrock ceiling started cracking. This is very unusual and the contractor went into the attic to determine the cause for the cracks. It was discovered that the original sheetrock was installed incorrectly when the home was built. Proper installation is to have the length of the sheetrock panels running perpendicular to the direction of the ceiling joists. In this case it was installed parallel to the ceiling joist when the home was built. The only thing to help this problem was to install 2x6 joist blocks to give more support for the ceilings which helped but could not eliminate the problem. The only permanent cure would be to completely remove the present sheetrock ceiling and replace with a properly installed new one. I absorbed the cost for redoing the cracked ceiling and only charged for the blocks to improve the support. I am sorry the customer feels this way about the project but the original problem is structural which I have no control over."
The bedroom which was previously painted was very good.
The bath where they removed the wallpaper was OK. There are defects where they didn't properly fix the sheetrock where they removed the wallpaper. They have offered to repair these. They left a lot of sanding dust -- maybe 1/4 inch on top of towel racks, etc. We expected them to clean up better.
The bath where the wallpaper that we removed came off easily was good.
The last bath where we had removed the wallpaper and the wall was rough was very bad. The wall had rough glue on it and they did very little to smooth it. They estimated the job after we removed the wallpaper and said it would be no problem to get it in good shape. It looks like they just slapped a coat of paint on the rough wall with little no repair. When we called to complain, they sent a Sr. Manager who said they shouldn't have taken the job after we removed the wallpaper as it was too much work to smooth it down. They wouldn't do anything other than offer to add a coat of a different type of paint if we would buy the paint. We contracted them for this bath specifically because we didn't have the experience to skim coat the wall to smooth it and they said they could take care of it. In the end, they didn't stand behind their work in that bath. I would never use them again based on this experience.
I was waiting on a new storm door to be installed and Certapro said they would come back for touchups after the door was installed. That is above and beyond the call of duty for me! This company did everything they could possibly do to make sure I was satisfied with the job. They made me feel like friends, not just a client. I will use them again for any of my painting needs in the future.
"CertaPro Painters was not contracted to do work at (member address removed) as listed on the review. CertaPro Painters and the painting crews are very professional and all work together with our customers. Our painters work hard to deliver what is promised, they respect the individual, they have pride in what they do, and always practice continuous improvement."
Crew arrived on time. They were extremely professional. Priming and paint job was excellent.
CertaPro Painters is a franchise company, so my review only applies to CertaPro Painters of Hickory/Catawba Valley.
"I am disappointed to read what this customer has written. CertaPro Painters bent over backwards to give this customers a quality paint job and what she is saying is not what happened. We were contracted to paint various interior rooms including the trims and doors. She was quoted one coat painting on windows, doors, molding, mantel, and stairs - two coats on walls. She was told that one coat on trims and ceilings may not cover due to color difference and was given a second coat option. When the project began we had one crew removing wall paper and doing prep. As painting progressed we brought in other crew member. From the very start the homeowner complained that the trims looked uneven and told the painters that they weren’t doing the job correctly. We tried repeatedly to tell her that the change in color on the trims was the problem but she did want to hear this. She told us she was not paying for a 2nd coat. Because of her continued complaints we decided to remove this crew form the job and bring in another crew to finish. The customer continued to micromanage until job completion. At our expense we gave her two coats of paint on the whole project. The curio cabinet had a leg missing and was only propped up by a screwed in knob which the painters were not aware of. When the cabinet was moved the screw from the knob, that was propping up the cabinet, caused a one inch scratch in the floor. We were told that she was having the wood floors redone when she had the kitchen cabinets replaced. The hardwood guy told me he would buff it out. We agreed that we would pay for two boards that the scratch was on if it could not be buffed out. Received the hardwood floor bill and it was to replace 8 boards. We told her this was not fair to us, but we paid the bill. Four months later she called to say we needed to repaint her kitchen ceiling because it was not to her liking. New kitchen cabinets had been installed and new recess lights had been put in since we finished the project. One big hole had been cut out over the sink so the electrician could install new lighting. It was obvious the ceiling problems were caused by the cabinet installation and the new recess lights. She still felt these areas were caused by CertaPro even after showing her how this was impossible. Told her we could repaint the kitchen ceiling but at cost. She never responded to our offer. We have gone the extra mile for this customer and nothing seems to satisfy her. We hold our painters to a high standard and when they make a mistake we acknowledge it and make corrections. In this situation we absorbed a 2nd coat on all the trims which was not our fault and paid to have 8 boards replaced even though it was dubious whether it was out fault or not. We did this to make her happy. The only request from her we did not do was the repainting of the kitchen ceiling months after we had finished the painting. At this point we felt she was trying to take advantage of us."
