Shorty's Appliance Repair

Hi! I used Shorty’s Appliance Repair based on a recommendation from a neighbor. Too bad I didn’t check Angie’s List first. Shorty’s Appliance Repair might have been good before he recently opened a shop, but now **** might freeze over before your appliance gets repaired. I paid him in advance (at his request) to replace the freezer gasket. That was weeks ago. Doesn’t return calls, and on the rare occasion he picks up the phone, blames it on the parts store, etc. Always gives another date and time he’ll be there and then no shows. He once again promised to be here at 8 this morning. I called him at 9 and he told me he was at the parts store because the store’s truck was delayed (always someone else’s fault). Said he’d call me right back after the store opened and that he’d definitely be here by 11 but would call either way. It’s now 2:30. No John, no call, no answer on his phone and too late to stop payment on the check. Save yourself the aggravation and call ANYONE else.

We paid $220 in a advance at his request for a new fan motor and labor on 6/27. Came back on 7/7 with the fan motor and still didn't work. He now said it was the control board but didn't also rule out that the motor was bad too. So he ordered the control board at another cost in advance of over $350 for parts and labor. Came back several weeks later and the control board didn't work--said it was defective and had to order a new one. That part arrived (according to an email he sent us) on 8/22 and any attempts to have him finish the repair has proved unsuccessful. He will not answer any emails or calls as of this date - 9/3. So we are wondering if this was fraud from the outset. Whether it is or isn't, we are still out $550 with the oven still unrepaired. Just wanted prospective customers to know so they don't deal with this company. Obviously not reputable and I would think twice before calling him. I am surprised he is on the recommended list on Angies's List. Wish I knew before and would have chosen better. Terrible way to treat customers and keep their money as well as not do the repair.

We have a Miele dishwasher that was leaking  We contacted Shorty's and asked if he was authorized to repair a Miele.  He said yes so he came out and gave us an estimate.  It was $750.00 which we felt was high for a 9 year old dishwasher.  We contacted Miele to see if they would help with the cost of the repair.  They said that Shorty's Appliance Repair wasn't one of their authorized repair companies.  We contacted Shorty's and they said they were authorized, so they contacted Miele and said that they were only authorized to buy their parts.  So, we don't know what the deal is.  Bottom line is that we paid Shorty's $106 to look at our dishwasher, and if we use them, it's going to cost us $750 to repair it because Miele won't help us out.  If we go to an authorized Miele repair company, we're going to have to pay another fee for them to come out and still don't know if Miele is going to help with the cost.  So, we feel that Shorty's misrepresented their company and cost us additional money.

Took his time and explained the workings of the range. Gave us a tutorial on how to use it best. Excellent experience.
