I called him because the management where we live recommended him for snow-plowing driveways.  I had a sort of emergency situation in that my dog had to be taken to the vet and would have to be carried to the car but the car was parked on the street below so I was hoping he could get here in time to clear the driveway and I could pull the car up and not have to carry the dog down the icy driveway to the car.  I was more concerned with the timeliness of the work than with the cost and I did not ask him up front how much he charged.  So he did not come until we had already left to go to the vet and when I got home I called and asked how much I owed him and said I'd send him a check.  He wanted $85.00 for clearing an average length driveway which was already half-melted from the sun.  A slushy and snowy mixture.  When I balked at this outrageous price, he asked if that was too much.  I told him the fella who had done the work 3 years ago had charged $35.00.  So he said I could just send him $65.00.  Unfortunately, we all know there are people out there who come into nice neighborhoods and automatically increase their fees and this man is obviously one of those people.
