Appliance Repair
This service provider was sent to us by American Home Shield, a home appliance insurance company. We had called because our refrigerator freezer had stopped working and the food in the freezer had started thawing. Joe Young the owner of Archangel Appliance Repair, came to our house on the service call. He spent 5 minutes looking at the problem and decided that the thermostat just needed to be set lower. This seemed strange to me, as the freezer had worked well for years with no changes in the thermostat. We paid him $60, the standard deductable for American Home Shield. The week following week we went on a two week vacation. When we returned, the freezer was again not working and we had lost all the food in it for a second time. Again we called AHS, and again they sent Joe from Archangel. Even though we were out of town, we had to pay the deductable again, because it had been more than 3 weeks since the original service call. This time Joe determined that there was a defective relay switch and had to order the part. He said that he be back in a couple of days when the part arrived. About ten days later, we recieved from AHS an email with a tracking number showing that our part had been delivered to Archangel the week before. My wife called Archangel to find out why we had not heard from them. First the lady said that sometimes the parts are misdelivered to a neighbor, and then she said that her husband had been very busy. We had been without the refrigerator and freezer for ten days at this point, including the night of my wife's 40th. birthday party. When Joe finally came back with the part, he was rude and condescending and he wanted the $60 for the deductable for the service trip. The part he replaced did not fix the problem, and he just left without saying that the repair did not work and that the fridge was still out. I had to call AHS to find this out. I complained to AHS that we had now paid Archangel twice for the same repair, and still had no working fridge or freezer. Also, the problem was misdiagnosed the first time he came, causing another loss of food, as well as the second deductable. AHS set up an emergency repair call to Sears, who sent a man out the following day. He had the necessary part on the truck with him, and had the refrigertor/freezer running in 15 minutes. AHS refunded the second service fee, appologized for sending Archangel to us and said that they would be "reevaluating" their use of them in the future. They will certainly not work on anything in our house again, and we will strongly advise anyone against dealings with them.
