I took my coocoo clock in for repair today. Both men in there were rude and dismissive. He took only and brief moment to look at my clock and said “no”. He said there was a guy near Weaverville that might fix it. He could not give me his name or phone number. So why even tell me? I will never return.

A phone call to John saved the day. Having phoned our local Asheville "clock Doc" and being gobsmacked by his fee to simply evaluate our beloved clock, I began the search for a more viable solution. In talking with John, it was apparent we'd found one. Once, a very long time ago, shortly after my husband and I married, we made our first significant purchase (As memory serves, about $70~to us, at that time, it was a lot of money.) It is a hanging, chiming clock with a mechanical movement and pendulum. One day it just simply gave up the ghost. The pendulum would not remain in motion. This clock has been on the wall in every place we've ever lived. Clearly, though not a fine timepiece, its place in our heart was secure. My husband drove our clock to Hendersonville shortly before our 49th anniversary and left it in John's capable custody. He picked it up today and it has now been returned to the wall of our home where it is functioning just like it did in the old days when it was a young clock Thank you John! We missed the old girl and really appreciate the time and expertise you dedicated to her restoration. Long may she reign. Our sincere appreciation is yours. Take your clock here. You'll be glad you did.
Description of Work: The clock no longer functioned. Pendulum would not move.

John Simons was trained in clock repair in England and runs a very clean and neat workshop in the back of his clock store. He can make or have made new gears and parts, install bushings, and identify and date movements, faces, and cases. Very knowledgable and now has a second clock of mine for repair. I am very pleased.
Description of Work: Restored the movement in a 200 year old long case clock
