I had contacted RPM marine in Hampstead to perform a major rebuild of each engine and to convert each engine to fuel injection and fresh water cooling. When I finally got the work performed, one year later, it was noted that the port engine had a cracked head and had to be replaced. After the rebuild done by RPM marine, I developed a leak in the port fuel tank which seemed odd since the tanks were nearly new. The tank had to be extracted and welded removing a section that had an obvious hole and corrosion. Upon inspection by a marine electrician, it was noted that the cause of the corrosion was secondary to the bonding wire of the boat being connected to the 12V batteries which was done by RPM marine. I was lucky that an explosion did not occur. Also, when RPM put the engines back into place, the engine mounts were barely secured and some bolts were even missing. I was told that I was also lucky that the engines did not blow through the hatch and end up on the deck. After all my trouble, I was out about 20K. I then contacted my brother in law, in the marine repair business, and asked who he would recommend to work on inboard gasoline engines. He suggested Mike's Marine in Hampstead. I requested that the port engine be looked as it was not running properly. On inspection after it was disassembled, it was noted by Mike that the engine had not been majored at all and still had the original pistons, rings etc. After the rebuild and install, the engine ran well but had limitation with the Holly fuel injection system installed by RPM marine. Because of the lack of initial rebuild of the port engine, I subsequently asked Mike to look into the starboard engine as well. The same thing was encountered, with no evidence that the engine had been touched with the cylinders not having evidence of being bored, the pistons, rings etc, being original. To make a long story short, I never had a major done initially on either engine even though I paid for this service to the tune of 16K. Mike charged me $7K to do both engines. The fuel injection system was eventually removed and new carbeurators placed and all is well at this time. While I worked with Mike, he was always trying to the very best job for the lowest conceivable price. I cannot thank him more for his service.
