This was an absolute butcher job of large 40-50 year old shrubs that was performed without request or permission. Mr John Foust has been doing small yard jobs and lawn mowing for my elderly mother for more than a year. She lives alone in a large house with a very extensively landscaped yard. His charges have been very reasonable in the past. She became ill and is recovering in a rehab facility. My husband and I were at her house when Mr Foust stopped to see if there was any work that needed to be done. My husband asked him to clean the leaves out around where the trash cans go so they could be put away completely. The two of them looked at the space and my husband gave a very specific explanation of the work we wanted performed and said that we would wait on any other work. When we came by the house on 2/2 we found that he had continued down the border from the area we had asked him to clean and had cut back all the azaleas and other shrubs almost to stumps for more than 50 feet. He also went across the driveway to the front walk and cut out half of what had been a beautiful cut-leaf Japanese maple that is almost 40 years old. He continued down the front walk and chopped exerything living back to the edge of the brick walk leaving branch stumps. This yard work was totally unsolicited. In fact, he was specifically told that, other than the small job we had requested, we did not want any other yard work done at this time. My husband called to find out what we owed him and to tell him we had no more work for him, now or in the future. Mr Foust said the bill was $475. The damage is done and we will pay him, but I strongly recommend his services only be used with extreme caution and a price firmly established in advance. His business card states he does "home improvement" including roofing, siding and other jobs, but no evidence of licensing or bonding is evident.
