Bryan and his help are very customer friendly - they are easy going and they work very well together.
The first time I used Mackenzie Painting was from  Living Social deal and had our master bath painted.  All of the walls in the house were originally painted with flat, non-washable paint and I needed to have areas repainted so the walls can be cleaned.  He suggested using a Sherwin Williams paint (Cashmere) that seemed a little pricey but was well worth it - The finish is great and best of all it is now cleanable!
The second contract was for the first floor living areas.  I went back to Sherwin Williams and got their top of the line paint (Emerald) this time due to having 2 rambunctious big dogs and need to have a paint to hold up to them in the main living area.  Emerald is supposed to have an even better washability and should hold up to my crew.  The finish on the paint is great!   All of the work was done in one day (living room, sitting room, kitchen, 2 small hallways and the stairwell.  They are very professional in their work, checked for any areas that might have been missed (the paint color was similar to what was previously on the walls), communication was great and cleaned up when they were finished.  His rates are excellent.  I would definitely use his service again.
Response from MacKenzie Painting
"The customer was such a joy to work for that my only regret was that I finished the job quickly and could not continue working for her. When a client displays such gratitude it makes my profession worthwhile, and those who are not fade into memory."

Our experience was excellent.  We had a few communication problems in the beginning as Angie's List had not updated his contact information so the e mail through which we were contacting him was not in use.  I then called him and he gave me the proper information and I let Angie's list know they had the wrong e mail for him.
His painting work was excellent - he spakled and repaired nail holes, etc. He taped everything off and was quite neat and clean about this work.  He cleaned up everything before he left.  We were very pleased.

After completely emptying the kitchen each time - the appointment was canceled by Mr. Mackenzie  - first because he forgot and secondly because he had scheduled someone else in the time frame. We were in the process of having our home appraised and so it was not only frustrating but costly.
He complained that he had to come from Greensboro - and the cost of his gas - He was late and after painting for 4 hours, he complained that he would have to come back and apply another coat after the paint dried for 24 hours. He also indicated that it would cost us an additional $100 for him to come back and complete the job.
Another painter came and indicated that he had dry rolled this metallic paint unevenly and so the entire ceiling will have to be sanded and repainted.

Response from MacKenzie Painting
"This client was outside the specified Guilford County coverage area for the promotion.I told the client there was an extra gas charge. I had to change scheduling dates to do the job. She indicated the color was silver color, not that it was metallic paint. She also had a large hole in the ceiling that had to be sheetrocked before painting it, which I dont do. She also did not inform me the metallic paint requires two coats 24 hours apart drying time. I applied the first coat CORRECTLY, NOT DRY-ROLLED, I told the daughter who was there, not the client, I had to make another trip after this coat dried, and that they needed to get the hole fixed first. I informed her in advance that it cost me more gas expense being outside the promotion area, she agreed to pay the extra gas cost. Now i would have to make an additional trip, doubling the extra gas cost for me to $50, as well as the travelling time. I made no complaints and would like people who write reviews to be accurate in their comments, and talk to contractors when they are dissatisfied instead of writing negative reviews. I have been painting for 30 years. I did not build my clients trust and praise by doing poor customer service. In virtually all cases of customer complaints little or no communication with the contractor is the cause. I continue to serve appreciative clients daily and appreciation is mutual."

by I purchased a Living Social Coupon for an interior room
painting. When I called to schedule Brian MacKenzie asked what size room, I
told him 12 x 17, he asked if I had a smaller room, I asked also about the
adjoining bath told him I would work with him.
Day 1, he was late, when he saw the area for paint (Master
bedroom and bath) he said he would do it but now I needed to go get 2 gallons
of primer, and my fault for not getting an estimate. He thought this would be a
quick job and already had things scheduled for the next day, The only thing in
the room was a bed in the middle and it was covered, several items were placed
on top; switch pates, curtains, etc. not covered.  After the primer was on when it dried it
showed bubbles and the wallpaper seams. A helper came after lunch.
Day 2, I needed to go get wall patching materials and more paint (already purchased 2 gallons). His helper was a no show and Brian complained about his job earlier in the day, which I found inappropriate. Brian patched the walls. But, he did not fill in holes left from screws from curtain brackets or from bathroom towel holders. So now I have to do it.
Day 3, Brian arrived early, said he had another job that afternoon and would need to leave by 2. His helper showed up late.
They sanded the walls and then painted (as far as I could tell, they did not wipe the dust). I had a meeting in my house at 1pm this is the time they were done? He presented me with the bill and explained the charges I wrote a check.  I did not go and look at the job, my fault. Brian and his helper removed their items through the front door which because of the ladders was propped open. They left the door open, which also disturbed me. When I did go up into the rooms I was disappointed.
Dust everywhere. I was not pleased.
When I did vacuum I used my rainbow vacuum cleaner hoping to cut down on the dust and I still got sick so the last impression is not one of a happy customer.

Response from MacKenzie Painting
"This review surprises me. We both shared a rewarding painting experience from my perspective. She confided sensitive personal information with me and I also confided in her. I did not know it would be made public here, and I would not dream of making public her sensitive information. Life happens folks and we all are human and make mistakes. The job I did for her became much larger than it was originally, and she was aware of the costs prior to doing the extra work. She was busy at the end of the job with a meeting with some other type of contractor and did not inspect the work. My mistake for not waiting for her to do so. I would have been aware of anything that was unsatisfactory and taken care of it. I never heard any comments until now here where I can not do anything positive about it. We had a very good working relationship it appeared to me and I left believing the job was well done and complete. I WILL DO A MUCH MORE THOROUGH JOB OF MAKING SURE MY CLIENT IS HAPPY BEFORE I GO ON TO ANOTHER, BECAUSE MY REPUTATION IS EVERYTHING TO ME, AND 24 YEARS OF GOOD REPUTATION CAN BE ERASED IN AN INSTANT!!!!!!!"

Only issue I had was it took a little longer to get appointment set up than I would have liked.  Brian did explain that because of the Angie's List deal he had been swamped which is understandable. Everything worked out just fine. Did an excellent job on both rooms. I will use again for future painting jobs.

Bryan first came and give a free estimate in November. By the time we were ready to do the work, he needed to give another estimate because we added and took away some rooms. Only needed 1/3 of the total in the beginning to purchase supplies. Price included all paint, supplies, and labor. The total job took almost 3 full days to complete. Bryan and his helper worked very hard each day and even moved all the furniture. All the ceilings were the same color, but the 3 rooms - foyer/hall, family and kitchen/sunroom - were 3 different shades of green. They worked very efficiently and played their music at a pleasant level only after asking for my approval. We are very pleased with the results and look forward to having Bryan come again next year when we tackle the master bedroom and bath.
