The kitchen countertop and full backsplash were pieced together, especially over the range where they used three smaller pieces. Had we been present during installation, we would have refused this kind of work. Sadly, our contractor had accepted it. Thus the initial work was already substandard. Also, recently we learned that the way the countertop was glued together was not a good, strong method.
Real problems started about 2 1/2 years later when the house started to settle and the countertop started to separate at one of the seams and became unleveled.
Whenever we were in town for at least a four week period to give them ample time for the repair, we tried to contact Chandleys by phone. Phone calls were often not returned, and we had to go to the showroom in person numerous times instead. Promised visits to evaluate the issue and decide on how to repair it where not once kept, as promised, but always rescheduled. There was always a different excuse, other job took too long, worker sick or injured, bad weather,... Finally this September (2014, after waiting patiently for more than two years (!) and a cut on my finger from the sharp exposed edges of the countertop pieces), we got somebody out to look at the problem, It was decided that their best installer would have to repair it. After rescheduling again several times, the installer came out and leveled the countertop with a few wooden strips and better adhesive. ($400)
Unfortunately, after two days, the settling started again, though very minor at this point. The installer promised to come back, but again appointments were postponed over and over again. We delayed our return to our main residence as much as possible to accommodate the installer, but nothing happened (this part stretched over a two or three week period).
Right before our next return to NC in Nov. 2014, we tried to contact Chandleys again, but two phone calls were not answered and the messages not returned. Finally, we were promised the owner himself would come out the next morning (today) and they would call to give an exact time. We're still waiting because he is at another job.
We have waited very, very patiently for 2 1/2 years, in part because we knew of a personal loss in the owner's family and wanted to grant them time to recover, but now it's enough.
