The job went great. Jonathon gave me an estimate with three contingencies. "If I have to replace these panels, the price will be this. If the damage extends to these panels, the price will be this and
if it extends to the peak, the worst case scenario will be this." The damage was slightly more that the lowest estimate and the price I paid was slightly more than the lowest estimate. I was very very happy. The standing seam roof was over 100 years old but still in great shape except for the one leak. Jonathon saved the roof and made the patch. Like I said. I was very happy and will use him again.First of all, this business is not licensed or insured, and there's no contract or waiver of liability offered. I said that before work could start I needed to have something in writing and signed by both parties, so at the bottom of the proposal form he wrote that he accepted full liability in case of any injuries or damage to the house, then we both signed it. I don't think it's very professional for a business to operate this way, but they had an A rating on Angie's List, and we couldn't afford the bigger businesses, so we took a chance. Obviously, it will take time to know the quality of the work done, but the shingles were good quality, the men seemed skilled, worked steadily, and the roof looks great. We were told the job would only take a day or a day and a half, but it took twice as long as that, not including work stoppage due to rain.
On the first day, a Saturday, our service provider was disappointed to find that not all the materials ordered had been delivered. Since the supplier wasn't open on weekends, the provider went to Lowe's to buy the needed materials himself. Meanwhile, a team of five men started the job, but after 2 days only two workers remained. They worked steadily every day until sunset, were very friendly & polite, and answered any questions we had.
What I didn't like was that after the roof was up and I'd paid the remainder of the bill, they didn't bother to return the next day to remove the rusty nails/tacks and other debris from around our house and garage. They only hauled away the bigger debris. Yes, I should have waited until the work was fully completed before paying. We learn through experience. Anyway, I didn't want my family or our 3 dogs to use the yard until it was safe, and couldn't wait to find out when or if the roofer was going to return to finish the clean-up, so I began picking up the nails myself. There were plenty out there, including on our driveway, and I'm still finding more. (Oh, joy). Never did hear from the service provider after I paid him.
The lack of a license, insurance and contract, along with not finishing the clean-up kept me from giving this service provider a better review. In my opinion, he needs to become more professional in the way he does business if he wants to establish a good reputation in his trade. I wouldn't chance recommending him to others.
