I had called them because I need the diagnostic for my heating unit had gone out. They said they would charge me a reduced diagnostics price with any service that I received, so I had him do the diagnostics and make the repairs. They did charged me a reduced price for the diagnostics which left me with a worthless "big deal" coupon. On the basis, they didn't accept the coupon, I'm requesting a full refund of the price paid.
They added what is called a compressor booster to get the compressor running again. A new one costs about $15. They gave me a used one at no charge. They also added 1 lb of R-22 to the system, and cleaned the condenser coils. All told they spent about 1/2 hour servicing my system. For that, the free used booster, and the 1 lb of R-22, the bill came to $217.50, which I felt was high. I asked how much they charge for the R-22. They said $80/lb, which I felt was way too high. I know that there are plenty of places on the web where it can be bought for $10-$12 per pound. Subtracting the used booster value of about $10, and $15 for the freon, the labor worked out to $192 for one half hour plus the drive time. To me, this is high.
Other than the amount charged, the experience was generally good. They showed up on time, were polite, and knowledgeable. They showed me how I could clean the coils myself in the future if I wanted to. They offered a relatively low cost way to get the system running again without the need to replace large scale expensive items. I like that option, as I'm a DIY'er, and know that there are often inexpensive ways to fix large problems.
