Richard estimated $650 for deck and siding repair. He began work on 3/24. On 3/25, he said the cost for supplies increased to over $400 (his original estimate was $150) and needed a check for $850 for partial payment. He returned on 3/28 and "completed" the job. Later that day he said he was not going to charge for the four hours of labor because of the large increase in cost. He returned on 3/28 and "completed" the job. I pointed out misaligned wood on the stairs, to which he replied "It's not perfect, but it'll work" and admitted his "worker" did it differently than he was told to do it. He also did not paint, clean his trash, or put any furniture back saying he would need more money to do so. He also left my trash container completely full of deck boards even though he charged me for "hauling". I paid the remaining balance of $386, which supposedly included an additional $75 off due to the poor quality of the work. I paid it with the understanding he would provide the original receipts as promised, along with a detailed description of how the labor was calculated. I contacted him 3/29 to remind him to send the receipts and labor charge details, he said he needed to find the receipts and that he completes paperwork on Fridays. On 4/3 I contacted him again to remind him. He sent me fuzzy images that you can't read - and despite numerous requests outright refused to send clear pictures or photocopies by mail. In reviewing the one document I could read, he charged for 36 hours of labor for something that he originally said he could complete alone in two days or faster with a helper. I have security cams and his worker was alone for the majority of the time, yet he charged me labor for both of them. There were fewer than 20 deck boards replaced, 2 steps, a small section of siding, and door trim. He also charged for trash hauling at the same time he charged for his hourly labor, which is double-billing. He will estimate one thing and raise it every day until you finally put an end to it. He charged more than double the number of hours it should have taken, charged for items without a receipt, and the quality of work was sub-par at best.
