I hired Christian to remodel a house. We had a clear plan on timeline, max 3 months, scope, cost, no more than 65K in remodeling cost receipts to be submitted, the workmanship was to be good and we would sell the property and split the proceeds. Christian blew through the 3-month max finishing EIGHT MONTHS later, the work was so bad no one would buy it for what we now needed to sell it for after carrying costs and the additional he spent without consulting me and he refused to submit receipts as the contract required. Quality - The new roof sections leaked, the boards for the master closet were dirty, caulking had large gaps, the "new" master bedroom floor sloped aggressively. The master window was busted out and not replaced. I observed his employee building out the master bedroom and it was patched together and not at all structural standard. Instead of ever submitting receipts he sued me and for whatever reason the judge awarded interest for all the time he wouldn't submit receipts as required by our contract. I'm ruined from my association with Olmstead. I should have been +80K, and I am so negative it will take years to pay. I did every bit of due diligence: appraisers, inspectors, structural engineers, multiple remodelers. There is no reason this project to have fallen so flat in the middle of 5 Points but for the poor workmanship and failure to execute the project on time and grossly extending carrying costs. Now I'll be paying back a person who grossly breached their promised for years to come and had to sell the house to do that. I do not suggest working with Christian. He will seem reasonable and trustworthy but do not be fooled.

I'm extremely pleased with my finished product.  Christian and all of the crews he hired were extremely curtious and respectful.  They cleaned up the yard and halls each day and were completely understanding of my households hectic schedule.  I definitely hit some speed bumps trying to renovate an older home but Christian and his crew handled everything very well and communicated with me when things came up. I will say that there wasn't a lot of face to face interaction once the project got started-so if you are a person that needs to micromanage I would suggest putting that out there to the Olmstead crew in advance.  Email and text was the majority of my interaction once the initial phases were underway.  But again, soo happy with my new bathrooms and the people Christian hired to come in.

My mom had several leaks in her roof.  We interviewed 4 roofers all of which were referrals from friends or relatives.  A friend of mine recommended Chris because he had solved a very tricky roof leak and was persistent until he fixed it.
After finally determining that all four roofers were proposing the same grade of shingle we chose Olmstead Homestead because they were the least expensive by several thousand dollars.   Chris Olmstead had superb references for roofing--from a realtor that had used him over 30 times.
Chris is a contractor.  He uses the same roofing crew for every roof job.  He spent time helping us select shingles and underlayment.  He asked what he needed to do to win the bid and matched the better warranty of a competitor on labor.  He came exactly when the work was scheduled and they worked straight through finishing a half day early.  They did a good clean up job.  He was attentive to fixing small cosmetic issues we pointed out during the roofing.
We could not be more pleased and have recommended him to others.

Overall the project went very well.  We had some bumps with the screened porch/deck (city regulations), but Christian Olmstead helped us figure out a workaround.  We are very pleased with all the work that was done.  Some of our family members could not tell we had a new pantry--it really looks like it's always been there.

We recently had some issues with leaking under the sink that was installed, and Christian sent someone out to fix it.  Great customer service in my book!  We are having some issues with the caulking on the storm door install, but I'm sure if I contact Christian, he will make sure it's taken care of, so I'm not too worried about it. 

On some occasions it was difficult to get in contact with Christian, but I'm aware that he is a very busy guy.  I found him to be very email and text friendly; which I appreciated.



Update: I should have been worried, because I was unable to get Christian to come back out and take care of the storm door.  That was disappointing.  We're purchasing a new house, and would have hired Christian again for work on that house; but due to this recent unresponsiveness; we won't.
