- 1. The equipment in the lower quotes were a lower quality with limited warranty around labor and parts. In addition, the warranty time frame was for fewer years.
- 2. The lower quotes also didn't have additional work quoted that Modern Mechanical explained would be needed. Had I moved forward with the other providers I would have had additional charges as the work began.
Since I have had the system installed things have been great. I have had to have them come out to service my existing unit on a number of occasions (the one they didn't install), many of which they provided at no charge, including weekend visits.
I have worked with three HVAC vendors in Raleigh since 2000 - Metro Heating, ARS, and now Modern Mechanical. While the others were very good, Modern Mechanical has been superior. I would highly recommend them, and trust them to provide excellent service.
I hope this review is helpful, as I am someone who reads Customer Reviews on many of my purchases.
Sincerely,
Ted
From the initial assessment to the salesman to the work, punctuality was never an issue. Neither was professionalism. Work was above code and passed inspection the first time around.
As I ran the system through its paces, I managed to get the AC to stop working the first night. I called the salesman to ask him to send someone out the next morning. He insisted on sending his on-call tech out in the dusk/dark and fix the situation that night. It had been a maligned sensor. The tech took his time to diagnose the situation. They haven't had to come out since. s
It has been a month and a half and quite hot at that.
When my wife found some debris in the driveway from the hauling away of the old system, I again called the salesman, who dispatched his clean up crew to power wash my driveway the next day.
I worked with their salesman, Jason. He was very professional and did not pressure me to make a decision immediately. He spent 1.5 hours with me on the intial visit, and answered all my questions, looked at the units that needed to be replaced, and drew a floorplan detailing the size and position of each supply and return in my rooms. Jason noticed a couple of things that neither of the other companies noticed.
The position of the unit in the attic was not ideal, and ductwork was criss-crossing resulting in an non-optimal flow. He suggested we move the unit to another part of the attic and fix the ductwork so that there weren't so many sharp angles which was restricting the air flow. Secondly, the builders did not put enough dampers to control the air flow and Jason to install and adjust them to even out the flow in each room.
I chose Modern Mechanical because of their attention to detail. They seemed more interested in doing the job right than getting it done as quickly as possible. Jason has a technical background and was straightforward to work with. He was punctual and was quick to respond to my emails and calls. The crew who did the work was clean, professional, and respectful. They seemed more like a family than coworkers, and they were excellent about respecting my home and cleaning up after themselves. They went above and beyond my expectations. I've worked with contractors before, but these guys were definitely a cut above what you'd expect. I have been recommending Modern Mechanical to my coworkers and friends.
