MIKE WILSON CONSTRUCTION

I hired Mike to build a large 22x 15 screened in porch and to renovate an existing deck for a house I am moving into in North Ridge. I got 4 bids and Mike's was competitive. I got his name from a friend of mine and I met with Mike I found him to be honest and knowledgeable. I decided to go with a smaller one man show versus a larger company because I felt like Mike's solution and ideas were more customized and he was more flexible. Initially Mike was easy to work with and he had some great ideas. The deck actually looked great and there was truly no problem until the end of the project. Mike highly recommended a tongue and groove wood floor that he told me he has used on his screened in porches for years. I asked him about the wood getting wet and he told me the product was made for outside and water would not be an issue. Well two weeks after installing the floor, and just 2-3 rain showers later the floor starting buckling-- VERY BADLY ! When I brought this to Mike's attention he assured me that the floor would settle in and it would dry out. Well a month later the floor is completely buckled and I am having to pay someone to come in and tile it which is costing me $4K more than I expected to spend. Additionally, Mike laid the tongue and groove floor right up to the deck floor where the patio door is with no groove for water to drain through so the floor is getting wetter than it should. This is a design floor any good carpenter should have identified.
When I brought this to Mike's attention, he told me that he refused to come by and fix the floor. He said that he spent too much time on my project and it ran over budget. Stupid me, I only owed him a $500 at this point and he was on to his next project. He told me not to pay him and to find someone else to fix the floor. He is a nice guy but he does not stand by his work and according to flooring experts I asked to come look at the patio he should have never used hard wood floor outside without a vapor barrier.
I would stay away from Mike Wilson Construction ! Learn from my mistake and find someone who has pride in his work.

Excellent. He built this structure without a drawing, based on others he had done and showed me in photos -- and on a handshake. He had several creative points to make along the way. He could have easily cut corners on the project, but did quality work with quality materials. The materials that he used were excellent and I was very pleased with the final project. Good job.

Mike is honest, and hardworking. We love our porch and would rehire him again.

Mike Wilson and his assistant worked diligently to build a custom two level deck with two sets of steps from our back door around the back of the house to the pool. He also installed a bench with hinged lid and completed the job with skirting. They worked hard every day and were even prepared to come in on Memorial Day as there had been several times they had to finish early due to bad weather.The deck is magnificent and exactly what we wanted. Mike gave us excellent advice on several aspects of the job, for instance the placement of the pool in order to avoid our septic lines. He designed it but listened to any changes we wanted to incorporate. I would absolutely recommend hiring this company and we will use them again when the occasion arises.
