What a disappointment.  I selected this mover based on the excellent reviews I saw and paid a premium for what I hoped would be exceptional service.  I have moved many times, including internationally and even while pregnant, and this was the most difficult move I've ever had.  One very expensive and essential item I had carefully packaged and placed aside in my group of items that was coming with me (my "do not touch" stack) had "disappeared" when the movers left and it was time for me to load my own car.  It has not turned up.  I was asked to sign blank forms that the team leader "would fill out later."  (I wouldn't do it.)  One worker shared his current criminal court troubles with me -- he was a nice guy, but that's probably not the most prudent choice when you're working in someone's home.    On the final day only 2 men and a small truck came to the house as the previous team leader told them all that remained was a washer and dryer and a few boxes.  They had to call 3 more men and a larger truck because in fact there were several rooms of furniture and multiple unpacked boxes still remaining.     The guys were nice and I tried to overlook what at that point I felt were small issues (other than the missing item, as above, but  I held out hope it would simply turn up in my packed belongings).  But then my items were delivered from storage. Some breakage or scuffed items are I guess to be expected (and they had their fair share of those), but I did not expect MOLD because items that left my home dry somehow came out of storage soaking wet (a box of small antique items was still damp and the packing paper was filled with mold spores, one oriental carpet was permanently damaged and the pad was so moldy it had to be wrapped in plastic to be discarded, etc.), or about a third of my boxes to be randomly packed and completely mis-marked (such as the box marked "Master Bedroom Closet, Wife's Clothes" that actually contained decor from my front porch, but no clothes, or a porcelain tea set packed in with heavy, hard-cover books, or boxes where bins of sorted items were apparently just upended into large boxes all together into some kind of "random stuff soup" such that it took me two days to sort through 3 boxes), or (and this may be my favorite) THEY PACKED MY GARBAGE.  That's right -- they packed a trash can with the trash still in it.  Even with this, I gave them a "C" based on the guys who WERE professional and did great work and don't deserve to be painted with the same brush as the ones who caused these messes.  I particularly have to give thanks to the movers on the PA end were put behind schedule when my husband had a medical emergency and I had to leave (I had absolutely no choice), and they handled the setback with grace.   But overall this was a disappointing experience.

Mathers Brothers/Wheaton Van Lines moved me from Raleigh to Ft Lauderdale FL. The original estimate was for 5000 LBS. After they loaded my household goods and weighed it they informed me the actual weight was 7800 lbs and charged me another $1400 for the move. They kept my things on their van for two weeks as it traveled around the southeast before delivering it my new address. When they unpacked it, the protective pad they had put on on my leather sofa stripped the finish off my sofa. I had insured my contents for full replacement value. Wheaton Van Lines refused to pay to have my sofa refinished. I've moved all over this country and this was by far the worst experience I have had. I would never use Mather Bros/Wheaton Van Lines again.

From the quote to the last box being delivered off the truck, I was very impressed with the quality of service provided by Mather Brothers Moving.  This was the first time I had ever used a professional moving company so I had a ton of questions.  They patiently answered every one plus provided additional info that I hadn't considered.  They handled my furniture like it was their own and were very accommodating in the placement of it upon delivery.  The final bill was extremely close to the original quote and that made me happy as well.  My mother may be moving soon and, when she does, I will be using Mather Brothers again.

Mather Brothers moved my parents from their home of 25+ years into an independent living apartment. I contracted with them based on a referral from Assisted Moving, a moving coordination company that works with senior citizens.
Everything went smoothly on both packing and moving days, with all items being delivered to the correct rooms (and some items that were going to my house being correctly loaded first so that they could be delivered last). I felt that they did a good job listening to us and communicating with us.
There were no glitches that were the movers' fault (just communication issues on our part), and nothing that was major. The moving day crew was very patient with my parents with regard to getting every piece of furniture in the right place, even rearranging my mom's bedroom twice.
I should mention that Assisted Moving's staff was on-site for both the packing and moving days, acting as coordinators for all activities (so that neither I nor my parents needed to), so I do have to give them a lot of credit for how well things went. That's no knock on the movers, just something that I wanted to note.

They communicated well and showed up on time and delivered on time. They communicated at the other end too, they contacted my son who was receiving the car. They did a good job with ongoing communication for things like traffic and weather change and the pick up and travel times. It was a little on the high side, I could have gotten cheaper but the service would probably would have been worse.

The team, headed by Jason, arrived to organize and pack as scheduled.  They were very careful and checked when unsure regarding our wishes on packing. We had some items packed for further storage vs. others that would be immediately unpacked. They disassembled furniture as necessary and rebuilt in the new location. They did a nice job on all.

As it was a very local move, they made several trips back and forth setting up rooms at a time, and arranged furniture as we desired, and even helped move it around again as necessary when we had to make decisions on the fly.  Everything was calm and reasurring.

This move was a downsizing on behalf of my elderly father, and I cannot say enough about Jason and his team in regards for their respect for my Dad's belongings and his person.  They did not insist on pushing him to move faster ( of course you are paying by the hour, but still these are younger men and they were clearly motivated not to spend their entire lives on this move...) and took care not to wear my Dad out.  Very kind gentlemen all.

It went great.  It was the most no-hassle move ever, and this was from an apartment complex in southern California to an apartment complex in Raleigh, NC.  It took the drivers a while to figure out how to park in the parking lots in front of each complex, but in the end they did a great job.  They were considerate of the traffic in the area, and they were careful with all of the belongings.  I am so glad to know that Mathers Brothers can be relied upon for more than just local moves.

The price quoted on the phone was 1/2 of what it ended up being. The contract was signed after delivery was complete, miscalculated, and also altered significantly after the signature and then mailed to me for payment, which is how it came to double the amount quoted.

THEY DID NOT LOOK LIKE THE GREATEST PEOPLE YOU COULD TRUST YOUR BELONGINGS WITH, BUT THEY TURNED OKAY. THEY DID NOT BREAK ANYTHING ON THE WAY OVER, AND THE PRICE WAS REASONABLE.
