James Spinelli at Woodwright Design & Build is a true artist with an artist's vision.  If you are looking for a fast contractor, go elsewhere.  If you are the kind of person who wants something out of the ordinary, and needs every detail perfect, WDB is the company you want to hire.  We have employed Mr. Spinelli now for at least seven projects ranging from large to small, and each has been perfectly executed.  And for all this perfection, his prices are quite competitive.
I met Mr. Spinelli about 8 years ago when he did a neighbor's screened porch and deck combo and the beauty and complexity of it was just jaw-dropping.  Since then he has designed many projects for us, both interior and exterior.  My favorite is our pergola-patio combination that draws constant oohs-and-ahhs, even from other contractors. I have learned to keep a stack of his business cards on hand.  He would be best described as a "boutique" builder, I think, as he works slowly and keeps a small client list -- or that's the impression I get.  On two occasions he has brought in a subcontractor for certain aspects and they have been perfect, too.  
Innovative design is WDB's specialty and whatever he builds will be extraordinary.  Spinelli gives excruciating attention to detail and asks constant questions.  He is not a contractor who pitches a project, gets your signature on a quote, and hammers something up hastily.  Be prepared to be engaged in your project and if you aren't willing to do this, you might want to look elsewhere.  He is also hard to get because his waiting list can be long and he does 95% of the work himself.  Also, he has a second career as a jazz guitarist, so his hours can be wonky.  This might put some people off but I think it speaks to his creative vision.  
To sum it up, Mr. Spinelli is patient, quiet, artistic, diligent, and perfect.  I would not hesitate to recommend him to anyone who appreciates these virtues.
