Over 2 days Don and his assistance replaced an exterior door, fixed multiple window drip sills, replaced rotten side battens, re-built an interior window frame that had water damage, and fixed a shed door and floor. They also painted these repaired areas. The actual cost for the work, time and materials, were on target with his estimates and the work was fantastic. They were efficient and took care to clean up as they went along. The workmanship was much better than I could ever do myself even if I had the time. I will have him back soon to help with more projects.

Don and his asst. cleaned up, took the torn down fence away, and left me very satisfied with the outcome. I will use Hammer Handyman in the future and already have an estimate for another job. I really like that I was charged only for actual time and materials and not simply the estimated cost. I will recommend him to friends and coworkers.

Don repaired where possible and replaced where needed. He showed up on time, finished when he said he would and charged what he estimated. He also presented the material cost to demonstrate that he did not make a profit on material cost. Don was professional in every way.

Mr. Holmes made an extra effort to squeeze in to his very busy schedule my mother's roof problem.  He went the extra mile coming over after he finished his already long work day.  He climbed on the roof, identified two probably issues and told my mom he would return the next day, again after working a long day elsewhere, and fix the roof leak.  As good as his word, Mr. Holmes came back the next early evening, patched a roof and secured some flashing.  Water leak disappeared.

After my initial phone call, he was able to visit the job site the next day and provided me with a printed estimate detailing each job and how much labor and materials would cost within two business days. Very knowledgeable, I had several random projects covering all kinds of exterior and interior work and he was able to complete them all. Very friendly and easy to get along with, was pleased with his quality of work. We will be using him again for future projects.

He is thorough, and very detail conscience.  His work and pricing is straight forward.  He separates the cost of Labor vs Parts and Supply.  This means you can see there are no hidden markups in the total estimate.  This is the most tricky part of most estimates, and why Hammer Handyman sometimes 'seems' more expensive.  I have been low-balled by many contractors, and then suddenly towards the end of the project there is some cost over-runs that were never estimated or Parts and Supply from companies I have never heard of that all of a sudden I need to install or the project will not finish.  I never feel that I am being fleeced with Don.

"The customer and his family are great people. I've been working with them for so long, their like family. I always treat all my customers with great respect, to their home and to them as people in general. I feel over the years that I have been working with him that we are not just business associates. We have become really good friends. I would do anything to help him and his family."

The quality for the money was okay but overall I can’t say I was very satisfied with the guy.  It was adequate but he didn’t pay attention to details.  He laid down the tiles but they needed cementing and he didn’t do it.  I told him to do it and he wasn’t very happy with that.  When he did do it, he did a sloppy job so I had him do it again.  I was cleaning up after him a week after he left. The feeling I got was this is what I get for $450.  He quoted me the price and I didn’t hassle him about it.  I wanted him to be happy with his price so he’d do a good job.  He did lay the tiles but he could have been cleaner.  He even left his cigarette butts in my grass.  I didn’t care that he smoked but he needed to clean up after himself.  He cleaned the cement in my grass and now I have cement patches in my yard.  I told him to do it further down the yard but he said it was minerals and it was okay and that nothing would happen.  There is literally a cement patch in my grass.  It’s not hurting the environment but it makes my grass look bad.  For a guy that has 30 years’ experience, I was expecting a better job.  I have to put cement around the corners because when winter comes and it freezes, it’s going to crack the tiles in a few years.  I have to finish off things that he didn’t do.   I can’t say that I would recommend him.  I would never use him in the future.

"In response to this review. The customer wanted tile layed on an exterior slab. I quoted him a price on installing the tile. I have pictures of the completed job. It looks fine. Once we were done he then wanted us to install a base tile along edge of tile where slab meets house. I told him that wasn't part of the quote. He then wanted us to install an edging around slab, that to was not part of the quote. I told him he could install it or if he wanted to pay for it we would install it. Although we did try to make sure the yard was clean there may have been a cigerete but over looked, for this i apologize. As far as concrete being left in his yard,no this is not true. Any left over thinset(concrete) had to be cleaned off the tools we were using. We had two options, his sink or the drainage ditch in his back yard. Any thinset that was cleaned was washed into the soil with a garden hose. Any remaining would only have been on blades of grass and would be eliminated as soon as he cut his grass. This customer was on of those people who try to get more than they payed for. I gave him a price up front on two projects he wanted to do about a month in advance before the work was done. He had every opportunity to compare prices and check references. I have found that there are some people in this world who no matter what you can never please. As I said,I have pictures of this customers completed job which does show his back yard which was left clean and free of debris. I do have over thirty years of experience in remodeling and can provide pages of references of happy customers who have become steady customers of ours. You don't stay in business for eighteen years by doing bad work. You do however run into some customers who are never happy, no matter how good a job you do. When this customer refers to cementing the tiles when they were installed and that we didn't do it,this is in reference to the edging of the slab. Each tile set was set with a modified thinset rated for exterior use. As previously stated he wanted us to install edging around outside edge of slab and when I asked him if he wanted it done he didn't want to pay the extra cost to have it installed. His tile will not crack or pop up We always pay attention to detail, thats why we take pictures"

I've used him several times. His name is Don. The price was exaggerated because he had to go and pick up the materials. He is very honest and very, very dependable. He comes when he says he'll be. He came across quite a difficult problem and he was able to correct it. My neighbors have also used him. No job is too small for him; he will come and do anything. His prices are a little on the high side. He works by himself. He is very punctual and very professional. I will call him whenever I need to.

They did a good job, working to find a new solution after he discovered they doubled up on the studs--making the spot I had chosen too narrow and placement of electrical made other spots challenging. They were finally able to find a spot that would work though and cleaned up thoroughly. The chandelier was installed higher than I had asked but it looks fine and if I had said something at the time I'm sure they would have fixed it.
