Southern Solutions Landscaping

We hired Southern Solutions Landscaping and Grading to fix a major drainage problem in our front yard, and also to provide some simple landscape design and installation. We have no landscaping experience and were relying on our contractor to help us out, but we were not happy from the very first day. In our initial meeting, I asked for a specific color of mulch, and the contractor didn’t express any concern. However, the owner remarked to my husband the day that it had been installed that it wasn’t ideal for our situation, that he “hated it”, and that it would float. Had he told me during our meeting, I would have been disappointed, but would have deferred to his experience and used a different material. They removed a tree, but left so many roots poking out of the ground that we couldn’t mow the grass without first taking an axe to the area, we weren’t given the plants we requested, and weren’t given the option to choose alternatives, and they planted the ONE azalea plant that we received right in front of the neighborhood sign in our front yard that we had to move. Thankfully, it was easy to move since they didn’t completely bury the root ball. The contractor did return to our house three times to apply “fixes” to the drainage issue, but none of them worked. We ended up consulting with another contractor and was quoted $2500 to fix the damage Southern Solutions caused to our yard. Southern Solutions offered to come back out for a 4th time, but we have no confidence that they can fix the problems they caused. We requested a refund in the amount that we were quoted in order to fix the problem, but Southern Solutions opted to have their lawyers get involved rather than do the right thing. So, rather than hire a lawyer, we will pay a new contractor to fix the bad mulch that is floating out of our yard, the ditch with a flat bottom that requires water to flow uphill to go under our driveway, and a drain that doesn’t work because it clogs up with the said floating mulch.

Derek and his crew were awesome!  They were punctual, nice, very skilled, and offered the best service from a landscaper I have had in a long time.  Derek provided a very timely quote, delivered awesome results, and always kept us in the loop on his ideas.  I would recommend Southern Solutions to anyone in Raleigh who needs landscaping.  Basically transformed our house to the best looking house on the block.  Thanks!
