Description of Work: Mr. Dawson appeared at my door, offering to clean my roof and gutters, cleaning and flushing the latter, followed by tightening and caulking all joints. The job needed doing, and his price was in line with previous companies, so I authorized him to do the job. As the job proceeded, he reported that there were two places in which the gutter nails were loose, because of bad wood, and he offered to fix these spots. I asked the price, and he replied: "not much, it's just a small job". I told him to go ahead, expecting a modest increase in price. Later, the gutters had been removed from three areas, and the soffit boards removed. As this job was nearing completion, he reported that there were more problems, and that one entire section of the roof was leaking and needed replacement. He wanted permission to proceed. I then recognized that the reasonable quote for roof and gutter cleaning was but a come-on for more roofing work, and asked him to stop further work.
