The previous floor was vinyl, but we had forgotten that it had been laid over the old tiles. Steve explained that his initial estimate of $850 had not included the labor of removing and hauling away the old tiles. Also he discovered that the underlying plywood was weak and sagging in one place due to past leakage through the old tiles. He added this additional labor and cost of the reinforcement materials to his invoice, which was still reasonable. Despite this unexpected complication, Steve and his assistant completed the work in only 2 1/2 days, including clean-up. (They also tidied up the work area before leaving each day). They were always pleasant and courteous, and we are entirely pleased with the result. Steve had done excellent work for us earlier as a subcontractor for another company that was not interested in this small job; so he had already earned our confidence.
