Lloyd at Ambassador Automotive said that the heads were bad in my 302 ford and needed replacing to fix the compression after his tests. He gave an estimate of $1000.00
He told me the distributor was good and to get an electronic conversion. It cost $150 and was not returnable. He had not checked the distributor when he told me this. Later he told me the distributor was bad and to buy a new one for 480.00. I did.
I picked it up and it had no power. the bill was now $4000.00. I complained about the 400% increase in the estimate and they lowered it to $2850 plus the electronic ignition that could not be used and the new distributor. I checked the compression and one cylinder had no compression. He never even checked to see if the job he did worked. The motor was much worse. I had to diagnose the problem that there was no compression in one cylinder when he was done and tell him. In good faith I paid for the whole thing with a check.
I picked it up again and after $3450.00 in parts and repair it made a loud clanging noise after about 1 hour running.
I called and the receptionist refused to put me through to Lloyd and said that they were too busy to take on any new work, even though they just did it and were paid well for it, or stand behind things they did. Several phone calls resulted in the same lack of concern for their failure.
This has been going on for 3 months and I have not received a call or offer of a time to fix my motor that was paid for at 3 times their estimate.
I believe that he felt everything was fine because he was paid. It did not matter that his work was entirely substandard and the motor he said he could fix was useless. I paid $3430 total to have an engine made much worse after he fixed it. I can't believe that today there are no safeguards to protect the public from this kind of fraud.
It was an expensive lesson to learn about Lloyd Cox's character.
I run a free dental clinic and do surgery 2 days a week for free and would not treat a person like this even though I don't even get paid for it
