one of the painters lying on my steps overcome with fumes from some kind
of paint stripper he had been using. Inside, my hardwood floors had
lots of paint on them as if they failed to use drop cloths. The job
foreman called me to settle with him after completing the work and I
went to my house to inspect the work. It looked fine initially except
that they had removed my wooden blinds (special made at a cost of over
$5000.00) so they could paint the windows. I asked when they planned on
rehanging the blinds and the foreman just stared at me for several
moments before saying they had thrown the blinds away. Gone, in the
trash, at the landfill were my blinds. The foreman still asked for his
money saying he had a house payment to make. I, of course refused to
pay. I figure I owed Veterans $2500, and they owed me a bit over $5000
to replace my blinds so they actually owed me 2500-2600, the diference
between the cost of blinds and what I owed them. In discussions with
Rick he didn't want to pay me what he owes me because he didnt want to
file a claim with his insurance. It hasnt been a year yet and the paint
is popping off one of the exterior windows and the kitchen floor is
bubbling up in spots. I would never ever use Veterans Roofing for
anything. I'm strongly considering taking them to court as I've gotten
NO satisfaction from them. They are one of the reasons contractors have
a bad name. Use them at your own peril.
When the day came to begin the job, Rick and a full man crew showed up on time and ready to work. The team hit the ground running, immediately putting down tarps to protect my plants and bushes. This would also assist them later with clean up. While the crew was setting up, Rick walked around my home with me discussing the job, pointing out little nuances of the project and answering all of my questions.
The crew was great! They were extremely polite and considerate. The crew was always busy. I never saw anyone just standing around. Cleanup was a continuous process. Once the tear off was complete, the old roofing was loaded in a truck and out of the way. A member of the crew used a magnetic device to pick up all the nails in my yard and then picked up by hand any small pieces of shingle that may not have ended up in the truck. The crew on the roof was meticulous. In each area they worked in, I observed them snapping a chalk line to ensure the rows were perfectly straight and aligned with the area to the left and right. The crew worked hard until dusk, then made arrangements to be back the next morning to finish up the job. Again Rick was on site when the crew arrived. It was important to me to see his involvement in the job and oversight of the crew (leadership). In a few short hours the crew was done and gone, leaving me with a beautiful new roof , with an awesome cleanup job.
I choose IKO architectural shingles for my roof. IKO provided many color options. I narrowed it down to 3 colors. Rick suggested Dual Brown to compliment the color of our house and my wife agreed. They look great! I am extremely happy with the difference these shingles make in the appearance of my house!
I will use Rick and Veterans Roofing for any home improvement project I have. I highly recommend you call Veterans Roofing if you want a quality job at a fair price.
As a veteran myself I wanted to do business with other veterans. This company completely fooled me into thinking that I was hiring competent contractors to complete my renovation. I will now have to hire someone else to fix this mess, I would not recommend this company to anyone and am totally blown away that the company would send a subcontractor to bid on the job in the companies name.
The Problem: I was very surprised when the painters finished the job in only a day and a half. Here in lies the problem. A review of their work revealed over 35 problems. Major examples include: paint on the carpet, paint on the hardwood, paint on light fixtures, speed roller marks, paint overage on ceilings, baseboard painting not completed, and wavy wall to ceiling paint lines.
Why: My understanding of why this happened is simple greed. This company and its workers seem to work by the motto of quick and slick. The workers were sloppy, lacked attention to detail, and all about getting the job done quickly to get paid, not necessarily right. I would not recommend them for any job based on their attitude and orientation toward quality.
I am a Military Wife and was alone at the time of this Project. My husband was Sure I would get "taken", which I can definitely see happening, But Mr.Garrison made sure everything was done to the Highest quality I would place Both of these men on speed dial for any other home issues. Veterans Roofing was an overall Positive experience and would recommend. I plan on using them again!
"We did paint the interior of the home as well as the tile in the kitchen on this house, not the carpet. There is not a contractor that can beat Lowe's carpet prices."
