Mr. Hobbs was referred to me through a friend. During my initial meeting with him he asked me what were my expectations on cost of this project. My response was that I would like to build as close to $50.00 a square foot as possible. He responded by saying that he does not quote by the square foot, what was my budget? I have a real problem with a business man who asks me how much money do I want to spend – it is unethical.
After my initial consultation with him he referred me to a designer who could design my home. According to Mr. Hobbs, the designer was willing to provide me with electronic files of the drawing vs. the traditional paper copies. I am able to do the printing myself. Once the drawings were complete, the designer charged me an additional $500.00 for the paper copies and said he had no deal going with Mr. Hobbs for the electronic files: he flat out denied any such agreement was ever discussed; however the designer did supply me with the electronic copies after I paid the $500.00. I e-mailed those files to Mr. Hobbs for him to give me a quote on the construction of my house. Since that time, over a month ago, he has repeatedly made excuses as to why he has not been able to provide me with a quote. A month later I am no closer to getting my house built.
At this point I am releasing Mr. Hobbs from any expectations I may have had. His lie to me cost me $500.00. I do not want a contractor that lies and procrastinates. I need a house built and I need it now. Mr. Hobbs is unable or unwilling to perform per verbal agreement and seems to have difficulty with being straight with his clients.
"I met with Mr. [Member Name Removed] to determine his construction needs. His expectations were unrealistic and I was up front with him about it. I never entered into any type of verbal or written agreement with him nor did I ever perform any work for him. It's unfortunate that he feels the way he does concerning my business professionalism since I never entered into an agreement with it. In completing custom building requests (which is what Mr. [Member Name Removed] was seeking), I have found it to be an inaccurate business practice to price per square footage as this defeats the purpose of customized building."
