On July 11, 2011, J. P. Electric's technician came to repair the line to a front-yard security light that had been improperly installed by another electric company and, later, cut by an irrigation technician. He came as agreed, worked diligently, and repaired the damage successfully. The charge was $747.50. I don't know if this was reasonable; I was just very pleased and relieved to have the problems solved. And I was pleased with the work. During this work, we discussed how a security light could be installed in my back yard. On August 8, 2011, I got an estimate of $797.00 from the company for that second job. I write this review because I feel so strongly aggrieved about the service received in that second job. But I do have one reservation: I'm confident that this is the correct company, but I cannot swear to it. Specifically, at the time the work was performed, the address of the company was 135 Robeson Street, Fayetteville, NC 28301; phone number 867-7700. The city was claiming the right of eminnent domain and taking this property. By the time I gave up trying to solve my problem with J. P. Electric, the company and that address had disappeared. Eventually, through Angie's List, I found J. P. Electric at 6936 Timbercroft Lane, Fayetteville, NC 28314; no phone number listed. And I have been unable to find a new phone number, or tie the old phone number to this new address without paying a fee. Since I know this is a lost cause, and I have lost enough money in dealing with this company, I refuse to pay more in order to do that. I do not know what happened between the time of the first job J. P. Electric completed satisfactorily in July, 2011, and the disasterous second job they completed in May, 2012. But it was a painful, degrading, and expensive experience for me: one that I would hope no one else would be subjected to.
Description of Work: During a prior, successful job of electrical repair, I discussed with J. P. Electric's technician how a security light could be installed in my back yard. On August 8, 2011, I got an estimate of $797.00 from the company for that job. Throughout the next few months, I searched for, located, and purchased the fixture that the technician and I had agreed upon installing. As soon as I had the fixture, I contacted J. P. Electric to set up a time to have the new job done. There followed a long series of unreturned calls and no shows, with excuses and explanations that always made the misunderstandings my responsibility. Eventually, the technician did the work on a Saturday and Sunday at the end of April 2012. Before he began, I voiced some concerns about how the lights would function when new connections were tied into existing connections. I was assured there was no problem. When the work was half-done, I was told that my concerns had been valid and it was too late to do anything about it. Ways to deal with that were suggested, and the follow-through brought me additional unexpected costs. When he finally finished that weekend, the bill was $681.00, paid on May 3, 2012. On May 4, 2012, I called to report that there was a problem with the new installation. The series of no shows, unreturned calls and excuses began again. On June 7, 2012, the technician finally returned for a charge of $145.50 and replaced a broken foundation light. The lights still did not work. After more unreturned calls and no shows, On August 9, 2012, I accepted the fact that I had been ripped off and called another electrician. The new electrician replaced incorrect parts that had been used and repaired substandard work that had been done. At this point, I have had no further problems. Actual work performed: 1. Fastened a new, hanging, outdoor lantern on to an existing arbor; and installed a light sensor to control the lantern . 2. Dug a trench and, through it, ran a line from the newly installed outdoor lantern to the nearest light at the end of a set of 4 lights running along the foundation of the house. 3. Tied this new line from the outdoor lantern into the existing line for the foundation lights at the point of this end light. 4. Installed a light sensor on that end light. Problems: 1. Could neither turn off nor disconnect the foundation lights as originally indicated; all 5 lights had to come on. 2. One of the existing foundation lights was broken and had to be replaced. 3. None of the lights would come on. Solution: 1. New electrician disconnected the three foundation lights beyond the connection point of the fourth end light. 2. He replaced the new, sub-standard cable where it was cut and shorting out with cable of the proper grade. 3. He installed a new light sensor of the grade required onto the fourth end light that was still connected and where the arbor light was tied in.
