20+ year old unit (bottom tier in reliability) finally gave out during the Superbowl. Called James first thing in the morning and he was on site within 45 mins. Over the past 8 years, James keep the unit running through three prior issues including a lightning strike but warned it next time could be the final straw before it was not economical to repair - we hit that point. James was able to keep the unit running until we could get a new unit on the ground later that week. James recommended that I go with a good bang for the buck unit (with a quick payback period) versus the "gold plated" top of the line that would have a 15 years payback period. While going over everything we also discovered the existing main distro ductwork was undersized so we planned to do that also. On Friday morning crew showed up and began work. They finished everything less replacement of the ductwork (my delay due to my Daughter and newborn Granddaughter returning from the hospital that day - staying with us while her husband is deployed). The crew finished up by 2PM and I was able to get the house warm before everyone returned from the hospital.
The following Friday, the crew returned to install the correct sized ductwork. They arrived just before 8AM and completed work just before 1 PM.
Since installation James has contacted me twice to ensure the unit was working correctly and offered to adjust the unit if I thought insufficient air was coming out of any of the vents in the house.
Down South has always been outstanding and responded we I needed them. The old unit seemed to have issues at the worst times and weather. The new Trane unit is significantly more efficient and quieter then the old beast.
"[member name removed] was suppose to contact me back after he talked to the electrician to see if he could have the units installed the way he wanted. I have not heard from [member name removed]. I can not give him a estimate until he figures out what he wants."
When the home was built, the A/C unit was not installed correctly. This contributed to excessive moisture accumulating in the ducts. The problem was fixed prior to me buying the home but nevertheless, I knew this AC was going to eventually become a long-term problem. Because of the A/C unit?s history, I paid extra attention to it and did everything I could to keep it running before I buy a new one. James has been performing annual services on my central A/C unit for about six years. This includes general cleaning and maintenance on the AC unit, adding freon (as needed); and testing the moisture of the effluent air from various ventilation ducts throughout the home. The overall cost for the annual service was $150.
James is extremely knowledgeable and understands the technical aspects of his occupation. Most importantly however, his integrity and professional workmanship have probably saved me thousands. HVAC services, like most other technical occupations, provide opportunities to take advantage of consumers, so it can be very challenging to find both technical skill and honest workmanship?James has provide both over an extended period of time. I highly recommend this business.
Ofcourse, this happened on Memorial Day! We called several placed but just got get voice mails or no answeres at all. When we called Down South Heating & AC we actually got to speak to a "real" person, Mr. James Rose, the owner. He was on the opposite side of town already working on someone elses unit, but said once he got done he would be headed our way. We were doubtful this was going to happen since it was a holiday, but within 45 minutes he called us to verify our address!
Mr. Rose explained why the thermostat we purchased would not work with our unit, and that it had blown our fuse/box. He didn't have the correct fuse that we needed, but he temporarily placed one that would run the unit for the night. He replaced the thermostat and stated he would be by the next day with the correct fuse.A man of his word, he returned the next day and installed a new fuse and new fuse box. It was not until then did he present his invoice. It was more than reasonable considering he replaced the thermostat, the fuse, fuse box and a service call on a holiday!
WOW, I had no idea those kind of business owners were still around! I holiday service call and we didn't have to take a loan out to pay it. Mr. Rose was professional, personalbe and very knowledgable. I highly reccomend his services!
