The Persian Carpet

Designer Interior Lighting Plan, Carpets or Rugs - Clean at Home, Carpet Repair, Refasten, or Stretch,

About us

The Persian Carpet is a full service Oriental Rug dealer offering fantastic selection of antique and contemporary handmade rugs. It all began in 1962 when Doug bought a small oriental rug for $15.00 during his first research trip to Iran. Over the next 16 years Doug returned to Iran 18 times, quite often purchasing rugs for friends in his spare time. The Persian Carpet was born in 1976, inhabiting a rental corner of an antique store. Since then, The Persian Carpet has grown into a leading regional retail store and a national wholesale, known for the quality and beauty of our merchandise. Our inventory has expanded to include all types of handmade oriental carpets and textiles with a wide variety of styles and designs from Iran, India, Pakistan, Turkey and China. The collection offers antique and new oriental rugs and features an amazing array of transitional and contemporary designs. The Lays began designing , producing and importing their own proprietary rug lines in the early 1990s. Today, The Persian Carpet offers a specialty line of British Arts and Crafts and American Prairie Style carpets that are sold worldwide. A new division of the business, Southwest Looms, produces two lines of carpets inspired by the American southwest. The Dreamcatcher Collection offers realistic reproductions of Navajo rugs and the Pendleton Collection features handknotted pile carpets using Pendleton@ Indian blanket designs. Nelda and Doug's daughter, Cynthia, and her husband Bruce McLaren joined the business in 2002 with the responsibilities for marketing and servicing our wholesale accounts. The staff at the Persian Carpet is fantastic! They are incredibly knowledgeable (PhD's!), friendly, helpful, have high integrity, and go the extra mile. Their store is THE place to go for a great selection of beautiful, high quality wool and silk rugs from all over the world. I enjoyed doing business with them on several occasions (purchasing rugs, rug cleaning, rug appraisal), and highly recommend them.

I had some work. The dog decided to barf on the one good rug in the house. I said, Okay. It's called snack and steal the cat food on the floor. I did send it off to Persian Carpet and they cleaned the rug, I couldn't even tell you where the spot was. So, they did such a wonderful job with it. So, it worked out very nice for us. They deal in all kinds of oriental rugs. It was an oriental wool rug. They worked out really nice. They also would let you take home a rug and try them out or several rugs, try them out and bring them back. If you want to keep one, that's one thing and buy it. But you get to try it out in the house instead of buying it and saying this is not gonna work. I did that one time when we first moved into the house and thought I was going to use exact opposite color of what I ended up with. When you put dark, dark rug down on the floor you could see absolutely everything, every spec of dust. So, I went to the lighter color carpet instead. Wonderful professional. I always will use them.

All of the rugs turned out well. The two smaller rugs look like new. The round rug looks great but they were not able to completely get out the red wine stain I had showed them. They had told me that it would be difficult to get it out fully and they were correct. I would say that approximately 85% of the wine stain is gone and it isn't very noticeable. They also suggested what I should do immediately after a spill occurs in the future.
They estimated that it would be 2 plus weeks before the carpets were done and they called approximately two weeks after the drop off.

I was pleased with the result and would use them again.

These people know their carpets and quality of rugs. They do an excellent job of cleaning and do not do more than is appropriate which is important in dealing with oriental rugs.

Terrible service - first, their communication was terrible. I had to call repeatedly to find out when my rug would be ready to pick up and more than once the person answering the phone would be unable to find any record of my rug even being there. When I finally got the carpet home, it smelled horribly, like a wet dog, unbearable. To their credit, they offered to clean it again at no charge. That took a month, and again, no effort on their part to ever contact me and multiple calls from me to find out when it would be done. Unfortunately, even after a second cleaning it still smelled terrible. I couldn't have it in the house. I didn't want to bother with the Persian Carpet again and took it to another place we had used in the past to clean the same rug, and in one visit they had it smelling like new again. I should emphasize that it didn't smell bad before it went in for cleaning the first time, just had routine wear from use.

"We are very disappointed that this client was dissatisfied with the experience at our company. We take pride in our customer service and when someone is unhappy we really want to know about it. We clean dozens of rugs every week and we make every effort to treat each rug with personal attention. We are sorry that this client did not feel they were served in this way. We will be refunding her money in full at this time and extend our apologies!"

When I took the rug in to be cleaned it had a spot on it. They were unsure if the spot would come out but said that they would try. When I went to pick the rug up we un-rolled it and the spot had not come completely out. They took the rug back and re-cleaned it (at no expense to me) and were able to remove the stain.

They have some really pretty arts and crafts rugs that you can't really find anywhere else. Their prices are a bit higher than others, but I think you get value for what you pay for.
