Signature Piano Service

It was a reasonably good experience, but there were some hiccups. An appointment was set up for 9 am on the 28th of Feb. By 9:20am, no one had come by, so I called the office number and left a voice mail. A little while later, I got a call back. The appointment had not been put on their calendar. Someone was able to come by an hour later. He looked at the piano and took it apart, but said that it was too old and he wouldn't be able to tune it.

It went fine. They were friendly, professional and informative.

Darin did a wonderful job. He was very nice and professional.

I would recommend Barnes Piano to anyone and plan to use them in the future for work on our piano.

They did really good service but the coupon itself is really misleading because it actually says that it is a coupon for getting your piano tuned when in fact it is really just a service call, the tuning is separate. So I ended up having to pay more money before he left. They did very good work and he gave me an estimate for some other repairs that I needed and it was good.

The service was wonderful. My piano had not been tuned for quite a while, say around 20 years! I paid extra to have the piano cleaned before tuning and I'm very thankful I did! The piano tuning proceeded cleaning and was great. I will have to have more tuning done as it was extremely out of tune. So happy with the work and would highly recommend them!

Technician arrived promptly, and worked efficiently. I didn't feel like he rushed through the tuning, or took too long. He covered the carpet with a cloth pad before unpacking his tools, which I appreciated. He explained what he was doing, and showed me the various parts of the piano he was diagnosing.

He was great. The piano needed quite a bit of work, and he was here for 3 hours. They were great.

Our piano had not been tuned or maintained for over 10 years, but Darin was not daunted and made our piano sound like new. Darin was professional, thorough, personable, and patient. We learned quite a lot about pianos from pestering him with questions, all of which he graciously and clearly answered.

I was given a piano that had been neglected for many years. We could not tell if it had ever been tuned. The provider found the strings rusted, soundboard crack in a few places and the inside was very dirty. He was able to fix the key that was stuck and also tune it. He checked the humidity in the room which was OK, but the piano had come from a cold environment and I was told that low humidity was best for a piano. The provider was not able to do all that was needed, the strings needed to be replaced as I was told that it would be very expensive to do so. The provider later sent me a list of costs associated with all that needed to be done on the piano and it would take more than one visit to complete the job. I would definitely use him and appreciated his honesty and expertise.

Approximately 3.5 hours beginning to end, which was not a problem. It all went well, as the instrument has not really been abused, just a survivor of three children. Darin Beery took the time and very calmly detailed what was going on inside the piano. He then went on to explain what work he would be doing to the piano. Q: Do you know what 20+ years of dust looks like? I do now! All that and more was cleaned away from the fine componentry of this beautiful instrument. When our daughter, the Mezzo-Soprano (now 29 years old and a Music Teacher completing her Masters In Music Education) came home, his work was done. Darin asked her to play and when she did, she lit up like a Christmas tree! She told us that it sounded just like it did when she first started lessons 20 years ago! Need a piano tuned? Did you just move here? Barnes Piano is the company to call, hands down!

Darin arrived at 9:00 a.m. sharp as expected. His social skills were immediately apparent. I liked him right away as did my son, daughter-in-law, and two grandsons. He removed his jacket, set up his tools, and played a mini concert for us as he listened and tested the instrument. We learned right away that Darin is a talented and accomplished pianist. His performance took our breath away even though he was playing a piano which was in deplorable condition. As Darin continued to repair and improve the instrument, he uncovered additional problems in need of repair. He worked without interruption for six hours! In spite of a long stint punctuated by a tornado passing right in front of the windows (one foot away from the piano), he remained pleasant, courteous, and polite. Darin is extraordinary. I will ask him to maintain my piano for as long as he is willing to help me with it.

Darin was careful, thorough, and extraordinarily knowledgeable. He explained the technical issues and options for our 115-year-old upright in fascinating detail. Could not be more pleased with the result!

I bought one of the Angie's List special deals to have our old piano cleaned and tuned. We bought a used upright on Craigs List 4 years ago. It's about 40 years old, and, by the looks of its insides, it had never been cleaned! The gentleman from Barnes Piano arrived on time, explained very clearly everything that he was going to do, and then showed us things as we proceeded which we needed to know. He showed us the inch of dust (no exaggeration!) inside the panel, as well as a couple of things that were in need of repair. He was very very thorough and treated our piano like it was his. He really has a passion for this stuff, and it showed. They finished when they promised, and really went above and beyond to please us. We did incur additional cost beyond the cleaning, but nothing he didn't prepare us for. The piano sounds a LOT better than it ever has!

Excellent! Not only did Darin do an outstanding job, he was an excellent instructor regarding what he was doing, why, and other potential upkeep options, without any pressure whatsoever. He spent approximately 3 hours on the job and only charged an additional $65 beyond the $99 "Big Deal", through Angie's List. (The possibility of an additional charge was made very clear in the promotional materials and in Darin's initial explanation of what he might have to do, asking if I understood. The Piano had been moved from Columbus OH and hadn't been tuned for some time.) In addition, I was greatly impressed with the support staff who contacted me promptly, were very courteous and competent, and even moved my appointment ahead of the Christmas holiday, as requested, when they had a cancellation. Not only am I am impressed with the technical know-how, I am doubly impressed with the professional, efficient, and fair manner by which this company does business. They seem to model QUALITY in all dimensions. I couldn't be more pleased. I will definitely use Darin and Barnes Piano in the future and will recommend him/them highly to others. They seem definitely to be "on top of their game".

The appointment was made promptly and the tuner arrived on time. The process took the amount of time he had predicted. He indicated midway through the tuning process that it would require an additional fee of $85 to get the piano tuned to a more accurate pitch. I reluctantly agreed. When he finished, I was not totally satisfied with the accuracy of the tuning (I am a trained musician, myself), and was told that it was the best he could do considering the age and condition of the piano. (It is a Baldwin spinet that has been well-maintained for over 40 years.) He offered to have the owner of the company contact me to tune it, which he did. Mr. Barnes, the owner, was accomodating to my schedule for the re-tune. He improved the accuracy of the pitch and made some additional adjustments that helped. He offered to do additional work on the voicing of the piano at an additional fee, which I declined. I am generally satisfied with the final product, and am appreciative of Mr. Barnes' efforts to ensure that I was a satisfied customer.

Darin was on time at 9:00 and was finished at 12:00. He did an excellent job at tuning my piano and recommended a follow-up in a year to keep it tuned.

Darin is a true professional. He spent time to get to know our piano, then set about making it play-worthy. It is an aging piano and has issues developing however he did what was possible to make it work well for now, and made me aware of future needs. I really appreciate his thoroughness and his enthusiasm for making it as good as it can be for a family of mostly intermediate players. I have, and will continue to recommend him to friends and family as the best piano tuner we have ever had work on any of our instruments.

After I got the deal I read more of the fine print and it sounds to me like it will end up costing me a LOT more that the $99 for the piano tuning. Our piano has not been tuned in years and it was also moved from one home to another. The way Barnes made this sound was that that could cost us a few hundred more dollars. I got a recommendation from a friend the other day to use another company to do my tuning and they charge a flat rate of $125 - no matter how long it has been since the piano was tuned.

There was some confusion about the possibility of additional services that might be required, but that was corrected. This company is extremely professional and responsive.

I purchased a big deal coupon for this company. It was very good, we were pleased. I would just say that they were thorough in their repairs. They were straight forward as far as what they told us and what they estimated and the reasons why the suggested the work that they did. They pretty much held to what they said. The person that came out to do the work seemed very professional and thorough and we were just pleased with the entire experience.

Darin was who came out and he was here for many hours and did a really good job. He was very personable, thorough, and on time. I was very impressed because he wanted to know the history of the piano and us. It hadn’t been tuned in a long time. The piano hasn’t sounded this good in a long time! When my son came home he said he couldn’t remember the piano ever sounding that good.
