Though it was a small move, I would definitely recommend them.
The company insisted on cash or a pre-arranged credit card or certified check payment. There was a post-move dispute over the amount of cash actually paid, which was cleared up with a faxed copy of the final receipt to the billing office.
(Lesson: Be sure to get a good receipt, with signatures of all involved, for all cash payments.)
Our move was scheduled for 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 2 and the movers showed up three hours late (yes, three hours!!). They didn't even have the courtesty to call us and let us know they would be late (we had to continually call them). Once they finally arrived, they were so exhausted from their previous move that it took them forever to move our stuff. We had a relatively small move and were literally moving just about 10 minutes away so it should have been a quick and easy process. Obviously, some very poor planning was done on behalf of Redi Care - why would you schedule such an extensive move before our 10 a.m. appointment?!
Not only that, but the movers themselves did a very poor job. They dropped boxes down staircases and they did not handle our fragile boxes carefully. At one point they even asked us to go and get them food! All in all, it was a total waste of $400. We practically had to move everything ourselves.
Come moving day they called a few minutes before they were supposed to be there and said they would be a little late. The arrived about forty minutes late and started moving all her stuff down into the truck. Both of the movers were very nice, efficient and professional. After about a half hour, a new guy arrived and one of the original movers left. I guess this gentleman was originally scheduled for our move but was late, which is why everything started late. He was not dressed appropriately for any kind of work environment. His jeans sagged around his knees giving us an unsettling view of his underwear. He kept stopping for smoke breaks, which not only slowed everything down but made many of our belongings reek of cigarettes. He had very, very long fingernails. I mean, they had to be four inches long and curled at the end. I don't know if that impacting his ability to move stuff, but it might account for him dropping and breaking my girlfriends jewelry box. He also kept talking on his cellphone. Answering calls in my house and chatting to his friends for a while. I'm paying him to smoke cigarettes and talk on the phone. Awesome.
After the truck was packed up I headed back to my house to get a few things ready for delivery. My girlfriend was gathering a few last small things and then had to do some errands on the way over. I got home, prepped a few things and waited. And waited. And waited. My girlfriend showed up, and we waited together. It is less than fourteen miles from her place to mine and it took them over an hour to make the trip. I called the office to see if they were lost, and was told they were not lost and would be there soon. I assumed they stopped for lunch or something, but they insisted they didn't. When I pressed them all they would say is that they stopped for gas and that they had to drive carefully. Well, the trip is fourteen miles. They should be showing up with enough gas in the truck to make that trip and not have to stop while I'm paying seventy-five dollars an hour. While unloading we found that they had damaged a desk. Outside of the jewelry box and the desk everything else made the trip unscathed.
So of the two movers we had for most of the trip, one was great and the other awful. I don't know who's nephew or whatever he is, but I don't get why that guy has a job. I spoke with someone in the back office about the damaged goods and was told to take some pictures and email them over, which I did. About two weeks later I called to follow up and was told she was trying to get me a better reimbursement than what the standard insurance covered. The next week she left a voicemail saying that sixty dollars was the best they could do, and she needed to confirm my address to send the check. I sent an email detailing my complaints about how the move was handled and included my mailing address for the check. I heard nothing back. After another week or two I called to see what was up. The woman dealing with everything wasn't there, so I left a message and included my mailing address again. And now it's December and I still haven't received any check or heard from them. I will update this post if I ever do.
These guys are less expensive than the other movers in town, but I guess there is a reason. I would highly recommend using someone else. Moving is a big enough pain without multiplying it by using these guys.
They check for damages came today. I bumped them from an F to a D. I really liked the old guy who was moving us. He wasn't enough to get them any higher rank though.
