Poorly, and the company refused to return my deposit after they failed to do their duty and make the repairs as they agreed to.

Every since that time, I have not had any worries about my property being occupied, or about the quality of people that REA chose to occupy my home as renters. They keep me informed of any maintenance issues or concerns of my tenants, and anything that concerns my property. I never have to worry about my property with the staff of REA are on the job. They are very professional and kind at the same time. I highly recommend REA for property management. I really appreciate their attention to what goes on with my property and tenants.

If you work with REA, do make sure that your leasing and property management agreement covers how you will handle sale of a property.  Also confirm who will take care of any required repairs and associated fees.

Response from REAL ESTATE ASSOCIATES INC
"REA managed this property for ten years, leasing to three tenants during this time and maintaining a very high occupancy level. Things went smoothly until the last resident. This resident was problematic and did not pay rent on time. The house was approximately 74 years old and did not have air conditioning. An issue with mold developed in part of the house, and the resident reported this to the City inspections department. REA coordinated work with the owner and subcontractors to solve mold and various other inspection issues. The entire process, relating to an uncooperative tenant, late rent and expensive repairs, was very disturbing to the owner, and understandably so. REA has reached out to this owner to learn how it could have improved its service. We have listened to the owner’s feedback which we appreciate, and we are constantly working to improve our processes and procedures to ensure that every owner and resident receive the best service possible. Unfortunately, and particularly with older properties, issues like these can arise, which the property owner and management company have little or no control over. While this can be unpleasant for the owner, REA is experienced with navigating such issues and always works to protect the owner’s interest in such matters. We regret that the owner in this case was dissatisfied, and we are always working to learn how we can improve our services and communication."

Their lease indicates one must pay to have fireplace inspected yet the fireplace is inoperable, lease says renter responsible for broken screens and cracked windows( house had 3 broken windows) and most all the screens were broken already. Deadbolts were removed and missing. When we pointed these things out to make sure if we rented that we would not be help responsible when we moved out we were told they wouldn't rent to us. We simply wanted to make sure that our $1800 deposit was going to be held in good faith and not hold us hostage for items already broken.

Do not do business with these folks. Feel they robbed us of our $75 application fee.

I have had issues with Real Estate Associates in the past, but they have improved lately.  I've worked with Doug Lalley and John Bowden.  My tenants moved out after 2.5 years, and Real Estate Associates insisted upon repainting the entire house when only touchup painting was needed.  The garbage disposal was broken, but it was not discovered upon their inspection, we fixed it ourselves upon visiting.  They said they would perform services that were not performed(removal of a couch left by tenant, not done).  After reminding them later, fortunately they corrected the issue and removed the couch.  I paid their cleaners to clean the house but the cleaners did not perform all of the cleaning that was supposed to be completed(did not clean baseboards and left a huge mess on the master shower bathroom floor). I was able to clean the baseboards and shower floor myself in 20 minutes, but no followup with the cleaners occurred for an explanation/refund/any hint of accountability.  I am continuing to work with them, but I hope we will not continue to have similar issues going forward.  I certainly will not allow their cleaners to clean my townhouse any longer after tenants move out, I'll probably hire my own company through Angies List who has good reviews.

A year later after the above updates:

New tenants are now in the process of moving out and I will be attempting to sell.  REA has been decent in managing the property in the past year, and we will see how they handle the inspection/repairing damages soon.  I will provide an update here after they do.  As noted above, I will be using my own contractors to clean up the house as I did not have confidence in those working with REA, and the cleaners were never held accountable for their poor performance last year.

Response from REAL ESTATE ASSOCIATES INC
"Real Estate Associates, Inc. (REA) was very surprised by this owner’s response. After we reviewed the history of the property over the past 2 ½ years that REA has managed it, it became apparent that by all reasonable standards we had represented the owner well. We did not lose any rent during this period and there was very little spent on maintenance (approximately $500). Relatively speaking, this is a terrific result. We agree that REA could have been more responsive on several items after the tenant moved out in regards to the cleaning and removal of the couch. But, we felt that we took prompt and proper action to rectify this situation when we became aware of it. Each member of our staff wants to deliver service beyond expectations, and we were surprised at the obvious degree of the owner’s dissatisfaction, as described on Angie’s List. We are not perfect. We occasionally make mistakes, but when we do, we acknowledge them and we take steps to correct them. We appreciate the opportunity to manage this owner’s property. We take every complaint seriously and try to learn from them. At REA, our goal is to provide service beyond our clients’ expectations. We have shared all of these exact thoughts with the owner and hope we can meet his expectations in the future."

I had a couple of issues with this company that left me dissatisfied.  Their management reached out to me and we had a positive discussion.  While this did not entirely resolve the issue, it did leave me feeling that they were aware of my concerns and would take steps to ensure this situation did not recur in the future.

I contacted two property management companies in Aug 2009 for an overview of their services, REA & Dick Patton Real estate. I initially went with Dick Patton Real Estate because of cheaper cost but, they occasionally returned my calls, took 2 weeks to come view the property after several calls, and took 1 month to generate a property management agreement. If they are this slow to get my business how are they going to be when managing my property and collecting rent. So I decided to call REA again. Robert recalled the exact day I initially called him from 2 months earlier and was very professional and responsive. Maria assisted me with some of the management paperwork which I received the same day!!! The experience was pleasurable and well worth the $200 initial management fee!!!!! I give them an A+++ for service.
