My wife and I contracted with Don Marshall of Jamestown Homes to build a house for us in Durham after admiring a house he had built locally and finding that Jamestown Homes owned a lot just where we would like to located. We made this decision after looking at many, many houses on numerous trips from Columbus, Ohio, to the Triangle to search for houses and lots. 
     Naturally we had concerns about building a custom home from long distance. But Don quickly eliminated such concerns and was wonderful to work with throughout the whole process. We began by searching online and, with feedback from Don, selecting a floor plan and design. Don then proposed excellent modifications to the plan that we never would have thought of on our own ? features that we have appreciated more and more as we?ve lived in the house. While offering his own ideas, Don never imposed them and always listened to what what we wanted.
      During construction, we visited Durham approximately monthly to make decisions (plumbing, cabinets, tile, etc.) that needed to be made in person, and in between those visits Don sent us numerous photos by e-mail documenting the construction progress at every step of the way.           
      Don cares about getting things right, and equally importantly, knows how to get things right across the whole spectrum of the construction process, from the initial design, to energy efficiency, to ensuring that the driveway drains away from the house, to beautiful finish carpentry. Impressed by the work he did on our house, one neighbor engaged him to do a major remodeling job, and another person contracted to have him build a new home on his last remaining lot in our development. Both have been delighted with the results.
