Hay's reviews looked good and my phone conversations with them were very positive. Mike came out the day after I called and suggested three different options. He had me comparisons and pricing for the 3 options in a couple of days. Once I researched and made my selection, he was able to install within a week. The installers were clean, professional and quick. They came a couple hours later than I expected, but were done in half the time of previous installers.
We used the furnace a bit in April and have just started using the A/C unit. The Hay's pricing was comparable to a much inferior Coleman product that I had removed. So far, it's dependable and shockingly quiet. I'm really pleased with the choice of Trane and happy I went to a Hillsborough installer for the service. I haven't yet had to use him for service, but Mike's been great so far and the products he's installed are rock solid.
Despite multiple requests, Mike never showed me where the filters were so that I could change them. I didn't find out where they were until the system shut down, in part due to clogged filters, and his technician showed me where they were, behind a screwed on panel on the system outside.
Mike didn't return multiple phone calls over problems with the system The builders specs called for the system to be balanced for the building. This was never done. I called back several times to try to get this done. Eventually, they came out and put in diffusers, which helped some, but didn't solve the problem because they never balanced the system. I had several service calls to try to get the system working properly, but it still doesn't. My power bills were easily double what they should have been last the winter. I found them to be unreliable with their follow up on problems with their work. The technicians seemed to be competent when they came out, but the office was not as responsive as I feel they should have been at getting to the root cause of the problems. I've had to hire another HVAC company to come in and fix the mess that they left of my system. After my experiences with them, I don't trust Hay's Heating and Air to get it done correctly.
They offered me a service contract, but, in my opinion, it was overpriced by several hundred dollars over what a trusted and reputable competitor charges for the same scope of work. I will not use them again.
