MK & T Hardwood Flooring

In all the businesses I've dealt with in my life, this has been my worst ever experience with a business. They are dishonest, incompetent, and have no problem with telling lies to people. So let me give you the short version of what they put me through. I called MK & T and spoke with the owner Michael S. (Mike). He came over the same day and did an estimate and we agreed on a price to finish LVT (Planks) and the shoe moldings in my kitchen, guest bathroom, and by stairs and front door. He shows up on Saturday and leaves one of his employees (A guy named Ashley) to do the job. I didn't know he was bringing one of his guys, but I figured it should be fine since he's an employee and should know what he is doing. Well he didn't. I have crooked shoe moldings almost everywhere he put them up and visible nail holes everywhere. He also didn't follow the instructions for the planks and roll the edges, so they are all splitting or simply gapped from him putting them on crooked when they need to be rolled together flush. In addition, he didn't finish behind my refrigerator, stove, or by the front door, even though he said MK & T would come back out to do them soon. Part of the problem was he had too much waste from bad cuts, so I had to go get additional materials. Before he really got into the project, he also asked if I knew anybody else who needed floors done, and I gave him my parents' phone number who needed the hardwood replaced by their front door. So my parents ended up hiring MK & T, (at about the same time), to replace their hardwood (before we knew about the splitting on my floor). They said they needed to rent some additional equipment from Home Depot to do the job, and then they couldn't get the rental equipment, so my parents asked them to return the check they gave MK&T for the rental. They said they would, but they didn't. Instead they cashed the check, and then my parents had to contact their bank and put a stop payment. Also, the wood they got for my parent's floor did not match their current floor, and they were trying to convince them that it was okay, but my parents weren't having it. So in the end, my parents ended up hiring someone else to do the work MK & T were supposed to do for them, and the flooring they did for me has to be leveled out so I can use it as a subfloor and install all new floating floor over it. Not only did they take my money for a job they didn't do properly, but I have to purchase all new flooring, molding, and supplies, then try to patch their damage so I can lay down the new floor. Through all this, the owner, Michael (Mike) denied responsibility. He blamed it on his employees and won't finish the job or repair the damage they did. Not only that, but when I asked him to finish the floor, he continually called me a "Mother F'er" and said it wasn't his problem. This is by far the worst business I've ever had to deal with. Don't let them in your home. If you do, make sure to supervise them at all times. Be sure to have a contract with every detail, along with photo I.D. so you can see their real names and make sure they say specifically who is going to do the job in a contract. Don't ever give them cash and make sure you have a signed receipt with their letterhead on it. I would suggest staying away from them altogether. There are lots of businesses out there who have integrity and stand behind their name. These guys obviously don't. I've included 5 photos. 3 show some of the issues with gaping, 2 show the issues with visible holes and crooked shoe moldings. Last is the mismatched hardwood they put down and tried to tell my parents, who are seniors, that it was fine. There were many more problems than just what's seen in the photos here.

Our floors are beautiful!! We were in the process of moving to North Carolina from Michigan and found MT & K Hardwood Flooring on Angie's List. On a previous trip to NC we had removed all the carpeting, tack strips and staples from the floors, but we wanted a professional to refinish the floors before we moved in. We we're nervous about using someone we had never worked with before and to send a key to someone we did not know, but MT & K proved to be exactly what we needed. Mike contacted me immediately and gave me a very reasonable quote after I sent him dimensions and photos of the rooms I needed refinished. I told him when we wanted the work to be done by and he was able to get it done by that time. He kept me informed of his progress and let me know that our agreed upon color stain may not cover a few of the stains that did not come out after sanding. We took his advice as to how much darker to go and he was right. We could not be happier with our floors!! He texted us photos of the refinished floors and then sent us the key back with the bill. He also assured us that the house had been secured again as it was going to be a week or so till be got down there. It was wonderful to walk into our new home and have these beautiful floors greet us. Highly recommend MK & T Hardwood Flooring!

MKand T did a fantastic job on all the work promised. We had just moved to Sanford, NC from the west coast and wanted our new home to have all hardwoods on the first floor and the stairs. For some reason our new house had carpet in the main living room and we wanted it to be the same throughout. They were professional and timely with the free estimate and we proceeded. They brought the flooring a few days later to get acclimated to the interior of our house and a few days later the removal of carpet and the installation of the hardwoods took place. Removal and install all happened on one day with a quality crew that did a fantastic job. This was important with a baby, cat , german shepherd in house, etc! Best part it was a near perfect match to the hardwoods that were already in the other rooms. We plan on having them do the rest of the rooms upstairs when we get the time. Highly recommend, great price, product, and crew.
