-Tim (the owner) was extremely friendly and approachable. We always felt comfortable calling him and asking questions. He was flexible and accommodating, and worked with us to minimize the disruption of the renovation to our daily lives. (This was very important to us since we lived on our second floor while the first floor was renovated). Tim is also very knowledgable and good at troubleshooting.
-Proline uses a network of sub-contractors who know each other and are used to working together, which helped with project coordination and communication.
-The carpenters who worked on our project, and whom we saw on a daily basis, were wonderful! They were prompt, courteous, and extremely hard-working. They were very skilled and took a lot of pride in their work. They were also great at communication, both in terms of explaining things to us and letting us know what to expect, as well as in listening to what we wanted/didnāt want.
-We were provided with a comprehensive project plan at the outset of the project, which was updated throughout the course of the renovation. When there were some unforeseen delays in the project (as is always the case with renovations), Tim worked hard to make up for lost time. Some parts of the work (e.g., roofing, exterior painting) were actually completed early, when Tim identified opportunities to take advantage of openings in subcontractorsā schedules, stretches of good weather, etc.
Overall, we are extremely happy with the quality of the work provided by Proline. Our house looks exactly like weād hoped it would, and we have gotten many compliments on it by guests and passersby!
Work started in November and the estimated completion date was early March. In January we received an updated plan with completion scheduled for the end of March. That was the last plan we ever saw, and the project was not completed until the following January! We often did not know what to expect for the week; often we did not get enough notice of when we needed to be on site. They told us to set up a tack board for notes and then they never used the tack board except to pick up checks. Communication is very important in a remodel but when we suggested a weekly email they ignored it.
Parts of the tile work had to be re-done because the tile sub did not know how to handle the material we had selected. Proline made excuses for the sub contractor but at least we did not have to pay extra for this rework.
The drywall sub made no attempt to protect our hardwood floors or put plastic across doorways to reduce the amount of dust in the rest of the house. We ended up having to refinish the floors instead of buffing them as planned. This sub also damaged a newly installed gas line which then had to be re-done. Again, Proline made excuses for the sub contractor rather than ensuring
the work was done properly in the first place.
We also needed roofing rework. So three different subcontractors were not properly supervised by Proline.
Most of the workmen were very nice but Proline seemed to have trouble keeping people.
Bottom line for us is that the quality of the work is important but good quality does not make up for poor execution.
